Dxdiag - Failure at step 19 just means user pressed "No"

A dxdiag test result may show "Sound Test Result: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)"

Translated from the geekish, this just means that when you ran the sound test and were asked if you heard a sound, you clicked the "NO" button. It doesn't (necessarily) mean there is anything wrong with the software. More likely cause of sound failure is something like speaker not turned on.

Many people are alarmed by this message and fill at least 10 pages of Google results.

Microsoft's dxdiag is useful for showing the status of all your DirectX components.
Start->Run, enter dxdiag and click OK.
