Hey guys, my friends computer has been having trouble for a while and randomly shuts down.. This time though when she tried to log back on her password didnt work. We have tried almost everything, making sure caps isnt on also.. so at this point were going to scrap the computer, but want to save data..music, files, ect.. how can we do this if we cant logon? Thanks.

First, you don't need to scrap the computer because you can't access the hard drive... You can wipe it and reinstall Windows...
Second, you will probably need to pull the hard drive and attach it to another computer with an adapter or directly to a connection inside the computer... From there, if the drive is not the problem, you should be able to access the drive and backup files... Use caution, if the drive is infected, the computer you attach it to will likely also get infected...
Third, you could create a boot disk with a small version of Linux, such as Puppy or Knoppix, and use it to access the drive... If the drive is still working, you could backup the files, wipe the drive and put in a new install...
If the drive is bad, you can certainly replace the drive and still use that computer...
