After letting my brother use my laptop for awhile I get it back and its slower. I have gotten rid of several programs he has added but still have more I didn't have before

I suspect that I have been infected with something nasty(the computer that is =P) since I have noticed slow downs and it seems that my hard drive is always working. Anyways looking to see if I have any malware and possibly some suggestions on what stuff I can do away with safely.
