Any suggestions for a firewall? I'm having a little bit of trouble finding one that is compatible. I've done several hours of reading on an assorted number of forums and I'm hearing a lot of people say that the Windows 7 firewall is sufficient. Any thoughts on that as well?

Oh I found this one. Any thoughts? http://www.pctools.com/firewall/

There are these as well.

The Jetico doesn't come right out and say whether it's 64bit compatible though.

That should be quite an up-to-date list:

That's a large list of firewalls although most are not Windows 7 64bit compatible. I was really looking for thoughts on good ones, maybe examples or experience with some and whether the Windows 7 firewall itself was good.

Firewalls are mostly a yes/no question -- do they work or not?? The only real difference between most is whether they slow the system down and most don't do that today... Also, since previously good choices like ZoneAlarm are now bundling tool bars and such, I would avoid ones that do that kind of crap...

As for Windows 7 -- it has been out for only a week or so in final form... I imagine that the firewall in it is better than what Windows has offered in the past, but that doesn't mean it is better than other ones that might be available...

One that will be good when finished, is Outpost Professional (not free). Currently, however, it's beta support for Windows 7, and the current version has problems with Windows 7 x64 (I haven't tried it with the 32-bit version, but it works fine with 32-bit XP). I tried it with Windows 7 x64, and it completely blocked access to my printserver, even with the firewall turned off, and even after uninstalling it. It's one that I've always considered excellent, although with a higher leaning curve than some, but it's not ready yet.

Thanks for the replies and advice guys. I've heard a lot of good things about Outpost and yeah, I've heard of the problems with the x64 compatiblity. If things get ironed out I'll probably take a good look at it. It's added to the list of other non compatible but good programs to wait on.
