Any help on the following would be so much appreciatted, have recently signed up to a webcam / chat site , for some reason when I click on the view webcam or view private messages options off the site I get the page opening up, but within say twenty seconds I get an Internet explorer error message appearing, running ie 6 but have also tried using firefox but same thing happend using this also.

the site is advertised as being interactive so java / flash and cookies used. have tried turning off my av / spyware prog and firewall but yep same thing happens everytime, is there any info from the IE6 error message that I could possibly give that would allow anyone from this site to try and find out what the problem that is causing this to possibly be ??

I know that the main cause off user problems on that particular site is thru incorrect settings etc off flash etc, have cleaned up the pc using cc cleaner/ av checked - all clear. all critical windows updates up to date.

one thing that I can add is that when I recently installed java I got a pop up message advising me that I had to d/load a small programe to enable the java d/load active scrypt ?? tried runing this programem but got the message that installation could not proceed due to incorrect internet settings, in the end I saved the wanted programme ( java ) and ran it straight from the pc, does this itself point to anything in particular regards any possible causes off this error message received when trying to view these online webcams / private messages.

have since tested my java / flash player thru the offical testing site and all comes back as being detected and working okay.

very much a novice when it comes to anything like this but am very willing to listen to any advice and it would certainly be very much appreciatted.

Appreciatte that no one has as yet managed to offer any advice on my particular problem just wonder if I possibly need to offer any further information ( hijack log or whatever ?? ) for anyone to possibly offer any advice to me ?? as I mentioned earlier when I went to d/load java I got the message installtion could not continue due to internet settings could this be connected in any way with the probs I am having with the particular website I am trying to use ??

really do hope someone can offer any advice as in all honesty have tried everything I can think off and now at a totall dead end smashcomp.gif

This is the only questionable process.

Did you install this?
Do you what what it is?

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\setup\manager.exe

If you know please let me know what it is.

If not then submit the file in bold to the following link for a scan, then post the results in your next message for me to see.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

p.s.
When replying to your topic, please use the button.
I do not need to see my previous post.

Okay thanks so much for your response to my continung problems off not being able to view the wanted website without constant ie.error messages appearing , took your advice and submitted the file to the online scanning site you linked to and was shocked to find the results - " backdoor trojan ", not 100% sure just how dangerous this particular trojan is and just what I need to do to actually get rid off it ?? so obviously would really appreciatte if you could give me this particular advice before we go any further.

To be honest not sure what this particular file does ?? clicked on proprties on the file and it told me it was installed in 2005, now it was only a short while ago that I totally reformatted the pc so just wonder why with a fresh install it is still there ??!!

I think the main thing about the find is that it is actually there on my pc !! to be honest like a lot off folk you think your everyday av software which in my case is Nod32 is 100% accurate in its results - obviously not !! also having just recently been introduced to superantispyware pro must admitt to having been very much impressed with its performance over its competitors finding a lot off stuff that the others fail to detect, but again just wonder why it never detected this particular nasty ??!!

so okay obviously need to get rid off the trojan file first, you reckon there might be a chance that this might allow me correct viewing off the above website ??

have attached the scan results by means off the upload option rather than copy and paste method I take it this is okay as to be honest not sure how you would go about copy and paste routine with the results page ??

again really do appreciatte your kind assistance.

over to you ....!!!

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Restart the compurter normally.

Submit a fresh HijackThis log.

Let me know what problem persists.

Okay as always thanks again for your continued support, carried out the tasks as you suggested and here is the latest hijackthis log .

unfortunatly even thou the manager.exe file was found within a file scan on my pc after carrying out your suggested tasks could not actualy delete it instead got the message " make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use

the startnod.bat file was not found with a file scan.

unfortunatly problem with ie. error message within the website mentioned within my original post continues.

one thing I noticed last night whilst trying another online scan was that again I had to install a small add on to allow the online csan to read my pc - active scrypt possibly ?? once again got the message installation could not proceed due to current proxy settings , have received a similar message before whilst tring to d/load Java this time got the message installtion cannot proceed with the current internet settings.

anything connected with the constant error messages being received whilst trying to view this particular flash site you think ??

anyone here is the latest log and maybe you can let me know regards deleting the manager.exe file ?? :

Some hidden process is protecting it.

Run this tool and let me see the results.

Familiarize yourself with this combofix tool.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.
***************************************************

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Please Note:

1. Disconnect from the internet. Unplug the cable from the wall.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Do not install any other programs until this if fixed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new HijackThis log so we can continue cleaning the system.

Note:

Hi, okay quick update between posting my last message and receiving yours I actually managed to delete the manager.exe file, after a quick search off google I came across " unlocker " a small freeware download prog used for this very process ie. deleting locked files that got rid off the file for me, again the other file ie. startnod.exe was not detected in my file scan.

wished I had waitted until I heard back from you unsure.gif but its done now and hopefully my method used is okay with you ?? - sorry lesson learned !!

That's good.

Submit a fresh HijackThis log and let me know if a problem persists.

We have covered a number of issues.

Tell me exactly what the error message is?
When do you see it.

Any additional information would help.

Okay if I click on start messanger or click on a webcam to view within the website off www.person.com I get an internet explorer error message appearing each and very time, say for instance I click on the start messanger option to read my private messages the page will open up in a new window, at the bottom off the page I get " transferring data from www.person.com, I then get the flash ?? type rotating symbol saying loading, then seconds later I get " Intenet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close we are sorry for the inconveince "" this happens when using both internet explorewr and also firefox. everything else on that particular website works okay ie, forums etc just the webcam viewing and private message features that constantly give me the ie. error reports.

does the content off the actual ie error message itself give any info that could point to what is causing the error ?? as reported in earlier posts I have no trouble viewing any other flash sites but I know that this particular site is very active and the very features I am having problems with are not causing problems to a lot off other users so can rule out the actual website itself causing the problems.

any off the above information give any further pointers to you to help rectify the situation ??

regards,
john

Download: CCleaner (freeware)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
Run the installer, and uncheck the option to install Yahoo toolbar (unless you want Yahoo toolbar).
Once installed, run CCleaner click the Windows [tab]
The following should be selected by default, if not, please select:

Next: click Options click the Settings tab
Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs.", click Ok
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit

If still no joy execute this.

Go start > run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns <-- (The space between g and / is needed)

Then hit Enter, type Exit, hit Enter

Post the contents of the error message is still having difficulties reaching the site.

Okay all done as requested ( ran cc cleaner / command ) but yep youve guesed it problem still there !! okay when I get the internet explorer error message has to close type box the following info is contained within the first screen :

ERROR SIGNATURE

AppName : iexplore.exe
AppVers : 6.0.2900.2180
ModName : ipcamera_mjpeg.ax
ModVer : 0.0.0.0
Offset : 000ad 961

The following files will be included in with error report

C:\DOCUME ~1\hp_OWNER\locals~1\temp\6d2-appcompat.txt

***

Not too sure if any off the above will be actually off any use to you or if its is just part off the standard internet explorer error message but have included it anyway, obviously I can let you know exactly what is written in the " view tech info " option off the error message but as there is so much info contained within these reports and not surre if you can actually copy and pate this type off message then it would be helpful if there is a particular part off the error report that I could possibly write down and give to you on here . maybe you can let me know ??

cheers,
john

Okay first off all sorry for the slight delay in updating you regards the problems I am having been kinda busy off late anyway unfortunatly still no joy, done a bit off searching google myself and came across the info in the following link :

http://java.com/en/download/help/iecrash.xml

now according to the info contained in the above link running anything less than 256 colors in xp will / can result in ie error messages appearing. also states that service pack 1 should be used with ie 6 upwards, surely thats not correct for starters is it ?? if so am running 32 colours and service pack 2, tried changing to 256 colours even thou it was not an immediate choice from the drop down menu ie had to go into change screen res. advanced, adapter, list all modes and from there changed from 1024 x 768 true colour 32 BIT 60 Hertz to 800 by 600, 256 colours and tried choosing 56 / 60 /70 / 72 and 75Hertz but none off these settings worked ie all screens were unusable ie colours not natural very blocky graphics.

Now I know the site uses flash player and a flash applet so dont know where Java comes in but do know that is advertised on the site specifications as being required.

again can confirm that having visited the official Java download site the Java installtion on my pc has been detected and working 100%

sorry to go over old ground but as reported in one off my earlier posts when I tried downloading flash player etc I had to do an offline installtion due to the error message being received which from memory was something like " installation could not proceed due to incorrect internet settings " have had this message before when I tried to do an online virus scan and had to download a scrpt ?? for the av to detect my pc - anything like this preventing my pc from allowing me to use the above particular troublesome website ??

again sorry for the delay in getting back to you ..... over to you !!!

How old is your computer Monitor?
You may not be able to change the resolutions because it's not compatible with some of the settings and or you need to update your monitor drivers.

Flash may need to run on a higher resolution and possibly the reason you cannot install it.

"incorrect internet settings" may be caused by many things. Run this google search.
