      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

  2. Please start a new topic in http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/forum/28-pc-checkup-and-troubleshooting/and post logs after reading: http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/index.php?showtopic=79038... We will need more information to be able to help... It may turn out to be a hardware problem, especially since you did some kind of factory restore, but it would be a good idea to rule out malware first... Also, please be clear about what kind of factory restore that you did - did you wipe the hard drive first or just do a Windows Repair... If you were not warned that you would lose all data on the drive, it was probably not wiped... Please check how much room is available on your hard drive as well...
  3. Reopened at request of topic owner. bpete67 please read previous post.
  4. I just noticed that some avatars that people use on this forum disappear almost instantly when I open a topic that these people use... With the help of one of my colleagues who doesn't experience this, I found out that these are Gravatar avatars.... I also found out that Gravatar is a data miner which tracks the people who use it all over the web: http://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/44717/is-gravatar-a-privacy-risk I strongly suggest that you do not use Gravatar, partly because it compromises your privacy and partly because it is a tracker that may track other people who open any topic that you have posted in... I have it blocked with NoScripts which is why those avatars disappear when I open anything posted by people who use them, but clearly not everyone is as heavily armored as I am...
  5. I check for new members several times each day and validate them if I don't find any problems... I was volunteering at a diabetes event today and did not get to it this morning, but generally it doesn't take long... However, I don't maintain constant watch, so a few hours delay is quite possible...
  6. Addendum: I just found that Skype had some sort of preview installed and apparently signed me in - presumably because of this update... I uninstalled it immediately, but I am quite angry that it happened at all... I uninstalled Skype a long time ago and only had it because it came with Win 10... MS seems to be getting more and more invested in pushing junk on the public...
  7. It appears that my copy of Win 10 has downloaded this update: http://www.computerworld.com/article/3102899/microsoft-windows/microsoft-delivers-windows-10s-1607-upgrade.html and is wanting a reboot to finish installing it... My Win 7 box claims to have checked for updates at 2:59 AM this morning... I just checked again and there was another update which downloaded and installed without difficulty... There was an AMD update that I didn't install yet...
  8. A quick Google search suggests that a lot of people are angry that it was installed on their computers and some have had difficulty removing it... That suggests that it is at least undesirable if not malware itself... I didn't see any indication that it is malicious beyond the sneaky way that it installs... As always, it is a good idea to look very carefully through each option when installing any software... My personal preference is to download the full package and install offline whenever possible...
  9. I just checked and you have still not taken the next step in validating, so I cannot approve your registration... I will check again in the morning and approve your registration if you have taken the next validation step...
  10. When I checked earlier, you had not yet requested validation, so I did not approve your registration... I will do so now, but please note that we are not constantly watching for people to take action 24 hours each day...
  11. In looking at the post, I am not sure what information represents your company... Please send me a private message with the offending information and I will edit it out... We generally do not delete entire topics if it is avoidable - especially when it is not even the original poster asking for it... Now that you have two posts, you will be able to send a private message...
  12. I have heard of one or two forced updates and those were stable... If you have Win7 check for updates and then check before installing them, I think you will be safe... Certainly Linux is a good option as well, if you are able to manage the interface... I have had more difficulty with Win10 updates breaking things and you can't even stop them...
  13. I do not recommend turning off "check for updates" as long as you retain the option to choose which ones to install... If you follow the update topics by AplusWebMaster, you can get a pretty good idea of which ones are okay to install and which to be careful about... I have taken to checking online to see what is being reported about updates before installing them recently because of Windows pushing the Win10 upgrade... There have been a few others that are also dubious and I have withheld installing them as well... I have a Win7 system and I would not leave it unprotected by not installing the updates that seem to be safe to use... As far as I can tell, I have had NO updates forced on me... If you are getting some in spite of your settings, something is probably wrong and I would start by checking your settings again to make sure you have it set the way you want it... What is the actual setting you are using??
