My pc contracted something late last night. So far today I've run Spybot SD, Lavasoft Ad-aware, Windows Defender, and AVG Antispyware. Spybot and AVG were the only two that detected anything. Virtumundo was on there, so I attempted to remove it with Vundofix, but I'm pretty sure there's stuff still on there. Spybot continually reports a registry entry for Smitfraud ... it used to report something for "Win32.Keylogger.fl" but that seems to be gone. AVG reported Virtumundo, Small.Backdoor.os, and two things that the name of which currently escape me, but were downloading agents of some kind ... ?

Anyway, thanks in advance for your time.

Hello,

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

Please download Atribune's VundoFix.exe from this site: <- just run the tool again if you still have the program
http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4 and place it on your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

Click the Scan for Vundo button.

Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.

You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files,
click YES

Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing
Vundo.

When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer,
click OK.

=*=

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4B646AFB-9341-4330-8FD1-C32485AEE619} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmpC.tmp.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7e6731d1-79e6-4515-ad4b-db3b76a16668} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Ltwnec.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\mlljgfc.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Ltwnec - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Ltwnec.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: msc11n - msc11n.dll (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Delete these files in bold if found.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmpC.tmp.dll <- this filename may be different. Delete any files found in this format xxxxxx.tmp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Ltwnec.dll
c:\windows\system32\mlljgfc.dll

Restart the computer normally to reset the registry.

Enable Windows defender.

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: Posted Image
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    Posted Image
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.

Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Let me know what problem persist.

Posting three logs, DrWeb.csv, VundoFix.txt, and hijackthis.log. There is a problem, however. VundoFix found a dll, mlljgfc.dll, that it was unable to remove (got stuck in a loop of saying it needed to reboot my computer everytime it ran). And I was unable to delete mlljgfc.dll or Ltwnec.dll manually. As always, I thank everyone who looks over my problem for their time.

Hi,

Will find a way to get rid of them.

Download this file - combofix.exe

and save it to your desktop (Important). Also save the below command in Notepad as a text file so that you can copy/paste in safe mode.

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe"

Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key just before Windows starts to load.

go to start --> run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe"

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Save it and post that log in your next reply.

Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

In your next post, please include
  • new hijackthis log
  • combofix log

*use separate posts to ensure the logs don't get cut off!

combofix.exe appears not to run properly on my computer. I ran it on a "healthy" computer for comparison, and combofix appears to run through a number of steps and produce a log there. However, on my machine, it produces only the blue "Please wait..." window, and then disappears ... no log is produced. What should I do?

This tool will not remove anything. It may give me some clues.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)

1. Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop

http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/Deckard/dss.exe (or other convenient location).

2. Close any open applications and windows.

3. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.

4. When the scan is complete, a text file will open - main.txt

5. Copy the text from that log and paste it into your post.

Note: Some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet. Please allow it permission to do so.

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

; Purpose: Remove traces in the registry.
;
; Instructions: Copy and paste this text IN BOLD into a text editor such as Notepad.
;
; Save this text as Fix.reg. Make sure the "Save as type:" is "All Files (*.*)" and save it to your desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\Ltwnec]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"appinit_dlls"=-

; Double-click on Fix.reg. When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click Yes.

If you need help on "How to Make a .Reg File"
See: http://www.nellie2.co.uk/file.htm

Restart the computer normally.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7e6731d1-79e6-4515-ad4b-db3b76a16668} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ltwnec.dll
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\mlljgfc.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Ltwnec - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ltwnec.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Delete these files in bold if found.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhe.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlljgfc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\qcdlo.exe
C:\WINDOWS\vtrpom.dll

Restart the computer again.

Submit a fresh HijackThis log. Let me know what problem remains.

Seems to be clean now ... had to use the file delete built into HJT to get rid of those files, though. Scans with various tools turn up nothing.
