Vundo.dll Need help

Sorry about the double post

Hey i have the vundo.dll on my compluter and McAfee can't do anything about it. I've already tried running Vundofix and it's left 1 file. and vundofix wont reopen when i restart the computer. Please help!

Hi, and Welcome to SWI

I suggest printing out each set of instructions and reading the entire post before proceeding. It will make following them easier. You have quite a few infections. Please follow all the instructions in the order listed. Checking them off as you go on the printed copy may help keep track.

One or more of the items you need to remove is a backdoor application can allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. I highly recommend that from a clean, uninfected system you immediately change all the passwords on any systems you access from this system. If you do any on-line banking, or store any financial information on this system, you should immediately call your financial institution and advise them of the situation so you can secure your accounts.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update".
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.


Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
    (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum in your next reply.

Please download VundoFix.exe
to your desktop.
  • Double-click *VundoFix.exe* to run it.
  • Click the *Scan for Vundo* button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the *Remove Vundo* button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click *YES*
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click *OK*.
  • Please post the contents of C:\*vundofix.txt* in your next reply.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the *Scan for Vundo* button." when
VundoFix appears at reboot.


Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) in your next reply. Please also save this as report2.txt to keep the confusion down as there is already another utility that will create a log of the same name.


Now reboot to Safe Mode - Restart your computer and begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.
To return to normal mode just restart your computer as you normally would.

Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
    Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
    A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
Run a complete system scan with AVG Anti-Spyware.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
    Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware
Now you need to run HijackThis and click "Do a system scan only." Place a check next to the following entries (if they are still there):

You can optionally check the following entry. This is part of Microsoft Office located in your Startup folder, but it's not needed, and it's a resource hog:

Now close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked.

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Click Start. Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them (if still there):
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mllmj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnklji.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\geede.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpevnpgi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winstart.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\tezchiby.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winpdc32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winstart.dll

Now you need to hide the files you un-hid earlier:
Click Start. Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading unselect "Show hidden files and folders".
Check the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Restart your system.

Download ComboFix© by sUBs from:
http://download.blee...ta/ComboFix.exe
Save the file to your Desktop.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
Don't click on the ComboFix window while its running; that could cause it to stall.
When finished, and after reboot, it should open a log, combofix.txt.
Post that log in your next reply.

Please post a new HijackThis log, the log from VundoFix (C:\vundofix.tx), the log from SDFix (Report.txt in the SDFix folder), then in a second reply the log from FixWareout (you should have saved this as report2.txt), the log from AVG Anti-Spyware, and in a third reply (due to length) the log from ComboFix (combofix.txt) and note any errors encountered.

You have multiple infections, including a remote access trojan that compromises your system. You still need to follow all the instructions and post all the requested logs.
