Hello.

For the last few days my Panda antivirus is constantly advising me of an infection by Virtumonde in the windows\system32\gebyw.dll file, and telling me to reboot in order to eliminate it. It worked the first time, then the next two days the reboot had no effect. I've tried running a couple of downloaded tools but they don't detect anything.

Can anyone help?

Best regards,

sjon

I have run Hijackthis, but when I press "save log" after scanning, the HJT window closes and no log seems to be saved.

Hello.

My computer has been infected for over 2 weeks with Virtumonde. My Panda Platinum 2005 detects it, asks me to restart (every couple of minutes) but fails to clean it. The computer is very slow, particularly when opening Firefox, and crashes a lot.

I posted this same enquiry over a week ago. I was told to post the Hijackthis log, but found that neither my existing Hijackthis nor the new one I downloaded allow me to save the log (although it used to let me). I posted to this effect but got no reply.

Also, my AVG Anti-spyware no longer allows me to update.

Any suggestions?

Best regards,

Sjon

Hi,

Sorry you’ve had to wait for a few days but all of the helpers here are volunteers and we’ve been really busy recently.

First, please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Once you have run ComboFix and before posting your log from that scan, please download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
  • Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: Posted Image
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    Posted Image
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.
I’ll look out for your reply :)

This last log came out in Spanish. If you need anything translating, let me know.

My computer is showing all the same symptoms as before. The browser is even worse, if anything.

Best regards,

Hello again,

Thanks for your patience whilst I researched your log files.

I am rather surprised that there doesn't seem to be any improvement in the performance of your system after so much malware was removed from it :scratchhead:

Could you please run the Panda Online Virus Scan.

Choose to "Disinfect automatically" and then follow the prompts. Allow Panda to delete any viruses it finds.

Once the scan has finished, please re-boot your computer.

Once you have done that, please download the free CCleaner utility.

Once you have installed it:
  • Run CCleaner
  • Click the Windows tab
  • Check the following options:
  • Posted Image
  • Finally click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit
Finally, could you also run ConboFix again and then post the log for me and let me know if you are still experiencing difficulties?

Thanks :D
