      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PC on a go slow

6 posts in this topic

Hi Everyone,

First posting so please be gentle! I looked at various threads with similar problems and tried some fixing strategies, but I'm still having problems with the machine.

The PC boots up without any problems, but I can hear the hard drive working constantly in the background when I'm using the machine. It's taking quite a long time to load programs and when I run the Internet it starts a go slow. All pages and programs will eventually load, but the wait can be quite frustrating.

I've tried checking for spyware and viruses (Spy ware Doctor, AVG, Lavasoft Ad-Aware); run disk clean ups and disk defrag. Only 13% of hard disk is used.

Currently running on 512mb Ram, originally supplied to machine 4years ago. I had a new motherboard and graphics card installed last October under warranty.

Ideally I'd like a cheap fix as if I start spending anything over £100 I'd probably consider getting a new PC. It's been suggested to install more RAM or reinstall windows.

With the programs running in background, I know how to disable them, but which ones do I need to keep?

I've included a copy of my Hijack This below.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

Nothing suspicious was found on your log.

Are you letting the Operating system manage the Virtual Memory?

Under Windows Help, look for Virtual Memory. Follow the instructions to let the operating system manage it.

If still no joy. Try this.

Repair I.E. and see if your system performance improves.

Method 1: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

From the Start menu, select Run.

In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)

Select the OK button.

Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.

Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

Method 2: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.

Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.

Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.

In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf

In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.

Click the Search button.

In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.

Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.

Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

Let me know how it goes.

I've set the operating system to manage the virtual memory and completed Method 1 for IE repair. Unfortunately there is no noticeable difference. As I use it mostly on the net, the biggest problem I still see is waiting for web pages to open up and then load, and from switching from one page to another.

Take a look at this page created by miekiemoes, one of the Global Moderators here, on slow systems, and some things you can try to do to try to improve it:

http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem...owcomputer.html

In the mean time,

Download this file - combofix.exe

and save it to your desktop (Important). Also save the below command in Notepad as a text file so that you can copy/paste in safe mode.

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe"

Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key just before Windows starts to load.

go to start --> run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe"

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Save it and post that log in your next reply.

Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

In your next post, please include

  • new hijackthis log
  • combofix log

*use separate posts to ensure the logs don't get cut off!
