      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Extremely infected, antispyware possibly infected too

17 posts in this topic

Leading up to infection, I was using Internet Explorer browser and had a paid version of Norton installed. Norton kept saying it was successfully blocking ataks against my system. However, the second I downloaded a video requiring active-x (it claimed), my system became infected.

I went to norton's technical support chat room, they said, "your system is extremely infected, pay us lots of money to help you."

I tried the trial version of avg and it got some of the viruses norton couldn't, but my system remained infected. I tried spybot search and destroy, and i don't know how much it actually helped.

I tried the free version of avg anti-spyware (and the avg antirootkit) and it is still on my computer, and has consistently been detecting infected tracking cookies every scan, even consecutive scans, sometimes when i'm not even connected to the internet. certain trojans and cookies cannot be deleted because something hijacks avg.

the same happens w/ other antispyware devices. mwav eliminated some threats but now won't delete anything unless i pay money for the real version of the product, and i'v only had a few days.

Every time I reboot the computer, when I get to windows, HP Windows installer tries and fails to install something (according to the screen).

Spyware Doctor detected these viruses (and refuses to delete unless I pay for the product):

Starware (140 infections)

Advertising (13 infections)

Tracking cookies (14 infections)

Known Bad Sites (10 infections)

PSGuard Desktop Hijacker (14 Infections)

Trojan.PWS.Tanspy (11 infections)

Comet Cursor (87 infections)

I found a version of adaware I could download at download.com, it told me i had to register before i could delete any of the threats detected, and to pay money to do so, and after i closed it it kept poping up a reminder about the threats even after i selected not to be reminded about the threats. (it had an option not to be reminded, which remained checked after i checked it even when the box kept poping up to remind me anyway)

I have downloaded Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard onto my system w/in past 24 hours.

I don't know if it's related, but the electricity in my entire house went out yesterday when I was looking up antimalware info on a message board (www.straightdope.com general questions malware thread directed me here), and cut back on immediately afterwards

CWShredder didn't detect anything.

V0250Cfg.exe seems to be sitting in my norton recycle (antivirus detected this file as a trojon but had difficulty deleting, at first refused to then later agreed to), along with other questionable files, like a vortec irc log file i don't recognize with a questionable name i definitely would have remembered

Before I download anything else, I would like some advice!

Here's what's actually running right now: Norton, AVG, SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster, PC Tools Spyware Doctor, Avast, mwav, cwshredder, ewido_micro (also ran this and deleted some virus, don't remember exact results), and the version of Adaware I managed to download from download.com i don't think i uninstalled but i can't find it and the popup reminder thing seems to have went away. If I shuld uninstall some of this stuff so as to maximize the performance about what i keep, advice? i'v had _a computer_ since Christmas, that's it, so i'm very ignorant concerning these matters

Also, possibly unrelated: I think my fortunecity account might be infected, but I can't be sure, lots of signs: the text is butchered when switching between html and text editor in often strange ways, i think subtle alterations on the website itself occur, and when i used a friend's computer, all i did was edit my website and they immediately afterward asked me what i did to slow down their computer. a friend told me the server is merely so old and unused it is easy to hack

Here is the log file:

Hello,

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

Disable SpywareGuard:

You have SpywareGuard installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix.

  • Right click the running icon ofSpywareGuard, it will open the program.
  • Then go to Menu, file, exit.
  • Then confirm the program is closed.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable SpywareGuard again.

Disable TeaTimer:

Please disable TeaTimer as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.

To disable TeaTimer:

  • Run Spybot-S&D
  • Go to the Mode menu , and make sure "Advanced Mode " is selected
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer " and OK any prompts
  • Restart your computer.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable TeaTimer again.

Disable Spyware Doctor:

Please disable Spyware Doctor, as it may interfere with the fix. To disable Spyware Doctor:

  • Click the Spyware Doctor icon in the System Tray.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Startup Settings under Pick a Category.
  • Uncheck Run at Windows startup.
  • Click Apply and Exit Spyware Doctor

Once your log is clean you can re-enable Spyware Doctor.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.gateway.com/g/startpage.html?Ch...DTP&M=C6535

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.gateway.com/g/startpage.html?Ch...DTP&M=C6535

O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Helper - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar2.dll (file missing)

O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar2.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:

ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: check.gif
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.

Include a fresh HijackThis log for review.

Let me know what problem persist.

Read this article.

Take a look at this page created by miekiemoes, one of the Global Moderators here, on slow systems, and some things you can try to do to try to improve it:

http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem...owcomputer.html

Pay attention to Section 2. Two or more security software programs running.

Decide which one you want to keep and remove the other.

Make sure the one you keep is up to date.

I did as you requested. Before all that, when Norton first opened up as i turned on the computer, i was informed spyware sheriff was detected and placed in quar. after a scan

(edit)also, just now, something attempted to delete a value of avg and spybot blocked the attempt, this happened constantly, and after i clicked "remember this decision," the box kept coming up for "value deleted"

(edit) this is still happening, as a matter of fact. quote: Resident denied the change of !AVG Anti-Spyware (Category System Startup global entry) based on your black list.

The good news is that your log is clean. Let me see what else we can find.

Download this file - combofix.exe

and save it to your desktop (Important). Also save the below command in Notepad as a text file so that you can copy/paste in safe mode.

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe"

Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key just before Windows starts to load.

go to start --> run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe"

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Save it and post that log in your next reply.

Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

In your next post, please include

  • new hijackthis log
  • combofix log

*use separate posts to ensure the logs don't get cut off!

Spybot and Spyware Guard attempted to block a search page change, from google.com to something else, and an Internet Explorer Icon has ominously appeared on my desktop

Delete these files in bold if found.

C:\WINDOWS\zts2.exe

C:\WINDOWS\rundll16.exe

C:\WINDOWS\rundl132.dll

C:\WINDOWS\logo1_.exe

C:\WINDOWS\R.COM

C:\WINDOWS\system32\T.COM

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vcmgcd32.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\iifgfgf.dll

Include a fresh HijackThis log for review.

Let me know what problem persists.
