      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Vista Virus

6 posts in this topic

Hi,

My PC (Vista Premium) became slow to run and start-up, it started to hang applications, I can't restore to before the problem and the CDRom drive has become disabled, I'm not aware yet of other problems. The problems coincided with the loading of some tsnp2std drivers - I believe loaded via the CD that came with the webcam I had just bought.

Norton couldn't find any problems, not surprising I guess given the virus snuck past it. After a quick search on the net I used Prevx2 to remove about 6 snp2std type files. I also disabled a camera monitor app and tsnp2std camera app that was left.

I've since run Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy which both showed no further signs of infection. However according to RegistryFix my register is a bit buggered - I have the log if required.

Would like some help/advice please on how to get the PC back to normal - its only two weeks old.

HijackThis log below.

Hello,

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

Nothing suspicious was found on your log. I would clean these items.

Please change the location of HijackThis.exe.

Create a new folder in your C: Drive

Name it C:\HJT or HijackThis and move the HijackThis.exe file in it.

It's best for this tool NOT TO be located in your Desktop or in a TEMP folder.

This way you can undo any changes if something goes wrong and will prevent the tool placing shortcuts on your Desktop.

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:

We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [toolbar_eula_launcher] C:\Program Files\Packard Bell\GOOGLE_EULA\EULALauncher.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Enable Windows Defender.

Submit a fresh HijackThis log for review.

Hi,

Done. Except for following item which was actually listed the same as in the log below.

O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Notifier BHO - {AF69DE43-7D58-4638-B6FA-CE66B5AD205D} - (no file)

I got my CDRom drive working by following an article in Microsoft's Support Knowledge Base http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us.

What do you think happened and how should I avoid it in the future and do you think its worth investing in a registry cleaner?

Also, should I enable or perhaps delete the CameraMonitor Application and the tsnp2std application? Defender gives the following info on them.

File Name: vsnp2std.exe

Nice Work your log is clean.

Please read this Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/prevention.html

vsnp2std.exe Not a cretical component.

http://www.castlecops.com/s13029-vsnp2std_exe.html

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/vsnp2std/

tsnp2std

http://www.castlecops.com/s13030-tsnp2std.html

Both files are Digital camera related. If not causing any problems I would leave them disable.

These were previous used in the previous operating systems. Nothing is yet known about their value in Vista.
