      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

Problems removing sysprotect

4 posts in this topic

I inadvertantly hit the wrong button on a pop-up and got slammed with Sysprotect. I immediately started work on removing it.

I've apparently removed all traces on a surface level, as Spybot and AdAware no longer find any trace of it, and Vundofix doesn't find anything.

BUT

I occasionally get a blue screen of death, and if it's not that, another odd message that requires my system to shut down. I've never seen this type of dialog box in all my many years of Windows use. I don't have a screen shot of it, or a full text of the message, but basically it says that a system error has happened and that Windows will shut down in 60 seconds, and begins counting down. At 0:00, the system restarts. It does say something referring to the "Spooler Subsystem App" having a fatal error, and that the command came from "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM" and something else referencing "...system32/lsass.exe".

Whenever the system restarts, I get a message from Spybot Resident concerning a registry change involving HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\NI.USYP_0002_N91M1708="C:\documents and settings\jim\application data\sysprotectscannerinstall]1].exe" -nag". This first appeared as a deletion, so I set it to allow the change and put that into my "white list" so that it would always happen, and it happes every time I restart now. I deleted that registry entry and the file it is asking well before now.

The fact that all vestiges of sysprotect are gone should make me happy, but this hourly system shut down is certainly ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, sorry about the wait.

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:

1) Run Spybot-S&D

2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected

3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident

4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

5) Restart your computer.

You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Next:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt.

Next:

1. Download this file - ComboFix

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Please also post a fresh hiJackThis log, you may need two posts to fit it all in.
