      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Welcome to SWI. Sorry you've been waiting a little while, it does get busy around here. I'm EngimaChick and I'll help you disinfect your computer.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd

Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).

Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please open up HijackThis.

Click on Config

Click on Misc Tools

Click on Open Uninstall Manager

Click on Save

A notepad document will open with a list of your installed programs. Please copy that into your reply.

Please post a new HijackThis(HJT) log and let me know how your computer is running.

Logs to include in your reply

You'll need to either print out these instructions or copy them to a program like Notepad because you wont have Internet access in Safe Mode.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

  • Restart your computer
  • Press the F8 key a few times just before Windows starts to load;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd

Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

You have Viewpoint installed.

Viewpoint Media Player/Manager/Toolbar is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad".

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint

  • Viewpoint Manager

  • Viewpoint Media Player

  • Viewpoint Toolbar

  • Viewpoint Experience Technology

If you are having trouble removing Viewpoint, I suggest that you use ViewpointKiller. You may download it from this link.

Once you have downloaded ViewpointKiller, unzip it to a convenient location such as your desktop. Run ViewpointKiller, and select File > Do All Killings. Follow the prompts, selecting Yes or No, depending on which selection you are most comfortable with. A logfile will be created in the folder you unzipped ViewpointKiller to, please paste the contents here.

Run HJT again and post a new log.

Is the computer still running slow and freezing?

Logs to include in your reply

SmitfraudFix

ViewpointKiller(f you chose to run it)

Please help me to help me to help you kureyon_virus. I asked you for an update on how your PC was now performing and you did not answer.Kindly leave me an update at the end of your next post.

Looks like we've taken care of Smtfraud but there's still some more cleaning to do.

Open up HijackThis, do a System Scan and select the following entries(if present)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Optional

You seem be or had been using PartyPoker. These type of programs often bring adware and/or spyware along for the ride and I recommend you also select the following entries:

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker.net\partypokernet.exe (file missing)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker.net\partypokernet.exe (file missing)

Press Fix checked and close the program.

Optional

If you decided to fix the PartyPoker entries in HJT please use Windows Explorer to delete the folder listed below in bold

C:\Program Files\PartyPoker.net <---- This folder

To check for any infections that might still be hidden I'm going to ask you to run a Dr.Web CureIt scan.

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:

ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
  • Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: check.gif
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.

Please run HJT again and post a fresh log.

An update of my Comp's performance: Well, it's a little slower and the AV pop up warning about the Zlob trojans.Qhost. etc... are still annoying the heck out of me. I think it's alittle better than before but still slow in a way.

WhenU CrunchGames

If any are found and, you did not intentionally install them, please uninstall them.

Please run Panda Activescan

Go here

I kept on getting error while downloading the Panda AV and I kept on getting a Malware pop up from my AV. Is there any way I can avoid getting error? or another way to do the scan?

Please tell me if you are experiencing any redirects when searching the Internet or pop ups(not from your AV). Also please tell me exactly what the AV pop ups are saying.

Please cut and paste this file

C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick\DoctorWeb\Quarantine\KillWind.exe <---- This file

to the following location:

C:\hp\bin <---- This folder

I'm going to ask you to run SmitfraudFix again to see if all traces of it are gone. Please delete the SmitfraudFix folder from your Desktop.

You again have not been following my instructions, I can't properly help you if you ignore what I ask you to do. Please follow these instructions like I asked you before.

Please tell me if you are experiencing any redirects when searching the Internet or pop ups(not from your AV). Also please tell me exactly what the AV pop ups are saying.

I am unsure what you meant when you said

I didn't get to step 3

Are you referring to these instructions?

Please cut and paste this file

C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick\DoctorWeb\Quarantine\KillWind.exe <---- This file

to the following location:

C:\hp\bin <---- This folder

If this is what you were to referring to then please do this but if it's something else please tell me what it is.
