So I got hit by SpywareSoftStop. I ran the usual scans. Updated and did full scans with Norton, Spybot, and Adaware in safe mode. I followed some online instructions I found. Got rid of registry keys. Got rid of files. But I still can't seem to get rid of this thing. I keep getting the same Red X in the corner with an info bubble. The bubble says

"Warning! Security report
Your computer is infected! It is recommended to start spyware cleaner tool. Do you want to know more? Click here!"

After the safe mode, I tried a manual removal and RogueRemover. Neither helped. The strang thing is that this info bubble is different from the one that the other sites and forums talked about. I'm wondering if they have put out a new version of their malware. Either way, does anybody know any other tricks to get rid of this thing? I'd be happy to post any logs you need, I just don't know where to start anymore. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Hello,

It is really important you follow my next instructions in the right order without missing any step!!!!

First of all,

* Please download the Suspicious File Packer from here:
http://www.safer-net...g/files/sfp.zip
Unzip it to the desktop and run it.

Paste the following bold part into the Suspicious File Packer window:

C:\DOCUME~1\GREGGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\frmwrk.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\GREGGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\svhc32.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Greg Galante\mstsk32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\stubext.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Greg Galante\systerm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sthbdm32.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Greg Galante\wintst.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\GREGGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\winhid64.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\GREGGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\uncwqs.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Greg Galante\mxcrtp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\krnl32.dll

Allow SFP to pack the file. This will generate a CAB archive on your desktop.
Go to this page.
Enter the url of this thread in the first field.
Where it says, browse to the file that you want to submit, click the browse button next to the second field and browse to the CAB archive that was been created on your desktop.
The cab file will be called requested-files[*].cab (the * stands for the date and hour).
Then click the Send File button below.

Then, * Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Where it says: "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved", copy and paste next bold part into that Window:

    C:\DOCUME~1\GREGGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\frmwrk.exe
    C:\DOCUME~1\GREGGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\svhc32.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Greg Galante\mstsk32.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\stubext.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Greg Galante\systerm.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sthbdm32.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Greg Galante\wintst.dll
    C:\DOCUME~1\GREGGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\winhid64.dll
    C:\DOCUME~1\GREGGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\uncwqs.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\Greg Galante\mxcrtp.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\krnl32.dll
    C:\Program Files\SpywareSoftStop

  • Then click the red Moveit! button below.
  • Close OTMoveIt
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.. Then it will reboot your computer.
Even though OTMoveIT didn't ask to reboot your computer - reboot anyway, this since moved files may still be in use.

Then, after reboot,

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Under Browsing History, click "Delete".
  • Click "Delete Files", "Delete cookies" and "Delete history"
  • Click Close below.
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu..
  • Click the Clear now button below.. A new window will popup what to clear.
  • Select all and click the Clear button again.
  • Click OK to close the Options window
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
Go to next folder: C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles and search for the log: ********_******.log (the * stands for date and time) and post the contents of it in your next reply toghether with a new HijackThislog

Thanks for your help but I actually managed to find another fix last night.
http://www.bullguard...Help_46882.html

It wasn't perfect. I follwed his instructions to the letter and when I came back out after the last reboot the thing was still there. But the red X in the corner wasn't. So I went into msconfig and removed SpywareSoftStop from the startup programs. After that I did something crazy. I left SpywareSoftStop alone. So the program is still sitting on my computer, but it doesn't have a way to start itself up. Not the perfect fix, but it stopped annoying me and damaging my computer. I'll let Adaware take care of it on my next scan. Hopefully by then it will have a better fix for this thing.

 By the way, I hope all malware programmers die a painful death from an STD that turns your genitals inside out!
