      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Hi,

* Open hijackthis, click 'config' (bottom right)

Choose the tab 'misc Tools' on top.

Choose 'delete a file on reboot'

In the field, copy and paste next:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpupdate.dll

Click open.

Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now. Click Yes/ok

Your system should reboot now.

After reboot, you'll get a rundll32 error, this is normal, so don't worry. It will be fixed...

Then,

Navigate to and delete the following folder if still present:

C:\Program Files\contravirus

Then,

Open HijackThis and check next entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Update Svc] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\xpupdate.dll, load

O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: heterandrous - {735e980d-45d2-4777-af82-9923d3c8d3ae} - (no file)

Click the "Fix Checked" button below.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:

  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Under Browsing History, click "Delete".
  • Click "Delete Files", "Delete cookies" and "Delete history"
  • Click Close below.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):

  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu..
  • Click the Clear now button below.. A new window will popup what to clear.
  • Select all and click the Clear button again.
  • Click OK to close the Options window

* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin

  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.

Rescan with HijackThis and post the log in your next reply.

Hi,

Look in my signature below under Firewalls for the ones I recommend. You'll find some free ones there as well. For example Comodo and Kerio are good free Firewalls. Only install 1 though :)

Glad I could help. :)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Happy Surfing again!
