      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

CWS from Hell! Won't go away!

10 posts in this topic

Hi,

I have an unwelcome visitor on my computer. Every time I boot up, my home page is reset as http://solongas.com/main/hp.htm, which is some sort of search engine, apparently.

My homepage address in Internet Explorer 5, options reads http://solongas.com/hp.htm?id=9,

but the address bar in my Internet explorer browser sometimes reads C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\hp.uti or http://here4search.com/hp.htm?id=9

It's not a virus that's doing it, according to Norton (I have the 2000 updated edition).

I have deleted the temporary Internet files and removed all the cookies.

I'm a computer idiot when it comes to these things.

Anyway, this seems harmless enough, but it's awfully annoying and I'm really starting to worry about it, I have noticed the number of unwanted links are being added to my favorites list (all phonographic).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have Windows 95 and could not install Ad-Aware but have run Spybot (they remove the coolwwwsearch problem but it just seems to come back), I have also installed and run SWShredder and Spywareblaster and they seem not to have done the trick.

Thanks in advance.

Could you click here to download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. If you already have CWShredder, click 'Check for update' and make sure you are running version 1.59. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Ad-Aware and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Then click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log here for a final check over.

Hi,

I checked the version of CWShedder and it

is the most current version.

I have run the program several times but it seems

to do nothing.

I downloaded Ad-Aware again but I am unable to install in my computer.

I have windows 95.

I could give you another log but it would be the same as before.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help and your response.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Nearly there. Go here and run online scans (all), allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall

eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner

Panda ActiveScan

Reboot when done. Then with only HJT running, have it fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [byeXe] c:\Winnt\project\By.eXe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [uninstal] regsvr32 /u /s image.dll

Reboot again and post one more log.

Hi,

I did the TrendMicro Housecall scan.

I could not get the Etrust to work on my computer.

I also did most of the Panda Activescan (very very slow).

Rebooted!

I had HJT fix the indicated files.

Rebooted and here is the log.

Thanks again for your help.
