Goodday, my default pages and the rest in IE are constantly being refreshed to jksearch.biz/redir.php. I've ran hijackthis, CWShredder (which removed only 1 file), Ad-aware principally and the problem persists. I've also ran my own NAV2004 which found nothing and trendmicro's online housescan which removed 1 trojan, in that order, strange.

It's weird i got infected, after i patched my Win2k to SP4, looks like vulnerabilities aren't addressed?

All these are the latest versions, and my hosts file just gets replaced with a 6k one everytime i remove it. I can't determine which process is interferring, please help. I've also taken the liberty to hijackFix c:\winnt\system32\config\services.exe.

This is my log, thank you. :(

Please copy the contents of the quote box to notepad:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad]
"System"=-
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{061646A1-DC57-487D-B023-A938198C174E}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{4E8A9E72-8942-40EF-88DF-A559152F6B41}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{6E94CEC3-0C84-4310-AE20-CD4090178388}]

Hit save as and give it the name clear.reg under the filename set file types to all files. Save it to the desktop. After done double click the clear.reg when asked to merge say yes and reboot.

Find this file system32.dll which is probably in either:
  • c:\windows\system32\system32.dll
  • c:\windows\system\system32.dll
... and delete it.

Then fix these with hijackthis:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to cath most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severly impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recyle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.
