      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Recurring trojan

5 posts in this topic

Please help me out! Every time I try to access the C:\ drive, the McAfee on-access window pops up. The window says that several trojan files were found and deleted. However, this seems to recur every time I double-click on the C:\ drive in "My Computers".

The trojans are always found in the c:\Windows\system32 folder or the c:\Documents and Settings\abcd\Local Settings\Temp folder. A common feature is the file amvo0.dll in the c:\Windows\system32 folder. This file is detected as a PWS-LegMir.gen.k.dll.

There are also several trojan files with extension .sys in both the folders. These files are detected as VAnti.sys by McAfee.

I have reinstalled and updated McAfee antivirus but it doesn't help. I have also tried to turn off system restore and do a complete scan, but the complete scan doesn't detect anything. The problem only occurs when I try to access the C:\ drive.

I am giving the HijackThis log below:

The suggestions in the following link seems to have worked:

The amvo0.dll file was probably getting created by the amvo.exe executable in the C:\windows\system32 folder. You can see the amvo.exe process running in the HijackThis log I posted earlier. The amvo.exe file was a hidden system file and the virus seemed to have made it impossible for me to see hidden files. I could finally view the hidden file by making some changes to the registry and I deleted amvo.exe in safe mode.

Hope this helps some other users.
