How to Remove CoolWebSearch with CoolWeb Shredder <= Please click on this link for instructions on how to download and use CoolWebSearch Shredder which will help remove a CWS infection on your computer. Make sure you close all programs and windows before running it and be sure to click on the "Fix" button.

You have a program installed called "Wild Tangent" - Most recommend removing it as it does download ad programs but it is up to you. If you want - Go into "Add/Remove Programs" and uninstall it - The uninstall will remove all relevant entries in your posted log.

Other than the WildTangent items which are optional for you to uninstall as per my previous post, it is looking clean.

Please go to Microsoft Windows Update and download all critical updates for your system. This is imperative - Especialy for IE.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

I would check to make sure that these files are deleted:

c:\windows\temp\8vVJ.exe
C:\WINDOWS\nem216.dll
C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer\optimize.exe (whole tree)
C:\Program Files\Zero Knowledge\Freedom\BandObjs.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PS2] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ps2.exe
C:\Program Files\Zero Knowledge\Freedom\AutoStarterR.exe (whole tree?)
C:\Program Files\ISTbar\istbar.dll (whole tree)
C:\Program Files\ClearSearch\CSIE.DLL (whole tree)
C:\Program Files\Lycos\Sidesearch\sidesearch1400.dll (whole tree of sidesearch)
c:\program files\internet optimizer\sim\msbb.exe (whole tree)
C:\Program Files\Power Scan\powerscan.exe (whole tree)
C:\Program Files\ClearSearch\Loader.exe (whole tree)

Do you concur, PGPhantom?

cadaverlab - Please DO NOT post into topics that are currently being worked on especially when you do not bother to read the posts as your "Advice" has already been covered. This only serves to confuse.

Not withsatnding - But you are also posting bad advice asking a user to remove valid files.
