This is what I've done so far (I'm at my wit's end)...

Edited 6-30-04 to add new log after new Ad-aware scan.

0) I read the FAQ.
1) Ensured that AdAware and SpyBot and CWShredder were up to date.
2) Rebooted in Safe Mode
3) Ran AdAware, Spybot, and CWShredder; removed everything they found
4) Ran HijackThis
5) Deleted the R0 and R1 entries that listed lefqd.dll (this is in the page url that is getting hijacked to), and the 04... sdkhy.exe entry.
6) Restarted; same problem
7) Ran HijackThis again and deleted the same entries (which reappeared)
8) Manually reset my home page
9) Exited IE and went back in; same problem

I'm running IE6 on Windows XP Professional.

Something somewhere is obviously still hijacking my system, but I don't know what. Assistance requested. <= (understatement of the year)

Ancillary question: If I were to switch to Mozilla Firefox, would that "fix" my problem?

Looks good Id suggest uninstalling Weatherbug and ticking the box next to this.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {26292D92-C47D-8978-68F1-EADFBF80E5DD} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mshx.dll (file missing)

Then closing all windows and hitting fix checked.

a) I attempted to remove Weatherbug via the Control Panel, but was not completely successful. It no longer appears in my system tray, but the Control Panel still lists it. Perhaps it'd go away with a reboot? (Do you consider Weatherbug to be spyware? I've used it for years and never had a problem with it.)

b) I reran HJT and fixed the B0 entry you specified.

c) I reran HJT again. Here is the newest logfile.

Edited to add: I haven't yet attempted to see if this has fixed the hijack. I've been doing all this using Mozilla Firefox, which will likely become my primary browser after this experience. I'd still like to have my system clean because Firefox doesn't work with all sites.

Ducky, has there been any reported problems with About:Buster interfereing with other non-malicious software?

After running About:Buster per your instructions, I now find that my Norton Antivirus is not enabled, and I am unable to enable it. I also cannot set it to automatically scan emails. I think I will have to re-download the software. (I'm trying to do this now, but Symantec must be having difficulties of their own.)

I also had a problem with my PhotoWorks software, so I had to re-download that too.

It's been 5 days since I posted the new HJT log. Any feedback?

(I know you're busy based on all the new threads I see, so I don't want to be a pain, but I'm concerned about my system functionality.)

Thanks for you help.
