report: 6-29-04
4 new items on 2 different computers, shareing a DSL modem & router

Both running win 98se
Both w/updates for IE6 & 98se
both use Mozilla 1.6 as browser

System A:
Infected with CWS.control.3 & ASX3TEST.exe
found by CWSshredder v1.59.1
said it cleaned, but had to restore from a backup copy of my registery.
Symptoms: took my network card offline.
buggered up NERO CD burning

System B:
Infected with CWS.JKsearch & CWS.smartsearch.2
found by CWSshredder v1.59.1 & Cleaned OK
Symptoms: made Mozilla 1.6 crash at odd times

System A could have been infected with a mis-typed site, was
trying for symantec.com to look up a virus for somebody.

System B IE was not used for the past 2 weeks, ONLY Mozilla 1.6

Post CWS shredder visrus scan w/NAV 6-25-04 def found no Viri.

Is something now able to hijack Mozilla ?

You can't hijack Mozilla. However, if this is an old version, you'd be able to see .xpis from known CWS manufacturers pop up. Go to about:config and turn XPI.Install off to stop these.

Mozilla is immune to hijackers. It is that simple.
Signature file is under revision. This will be back shortly.
