Hi there

I'd really appreciate some help with this. I've tried every combination i can think of running adaware, cwshredder, hijack this and spybot all to no avail. I think I may have succeded in getting rid of the bit where my homepage keeps reseting to about:blank - or at least it hasn't happened for the last 24 hours. However I keep getting popups and my notebook program no longer works.

I'd be so grateful for some help, it's driving me up the wall. Many thanks, regards Richard.

Hijack this and FindnFix logs are below:

Hello Grindlay,

This is going to be a little challenging, but I will do my best to help you get rid of the about:blank infection :) The first thing I need you to do is to download the latest version of HJT from here, and post the new log in this thread.

Next, can you try to locate COMJN.DLL and try to send me a zipped copy of the file to this e-mail address? As far as the notepad problem is concerned, lets try doing this:

Download notepad.exe, and save it to C:\WINDOWS and C:\WINDOWS\System32. It is important that you make sure that you save it to both locations...after doing this, try running notepad, and see if it works

Good Luck :)

Wow - thanks for your help, and such a quick reply.

Right: Good news is notebook problem is fixed :D

I found the comjn.dll file and supiciously it does seemed to have been created about 5 or 6 days ago which is when the problems started however when i try and send it to winzip i get an error message as follows:

Action: Add (and Replace) Files Recurse: no Save Full Path: no
Adding comjn.dll
Warning: could not open for reading: C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/comjn.dll

and it won't move into the zip file - sorry.

Have downloaded the new copy of hijackthis and the log is below.

Once again - thanks for your help - It's very much appreciated.

Regards Grindlay

Hello Grindlay,

Can you please download the latest version of CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom, the creator of Hijack This. Run it, press 'Fix', and allow it to fix all it finds.

Now download Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoftu...pport/download/
After installing AAW, and before running the program, you NEED to FIRST update the reference file following these instructions.

Now do the following:

- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Press "Scan Now"

- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:

Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives...
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again
Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"

If it finds "bad" files and registry keys, press "Next" again
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot. That ought to get rid of most of your spyware. When you've done all that, re-run Hijack This, and show us a fresh log.

Good Luck :)

Thank you again for your help. I carried out your instructions as specified. I could not get your link to CWShredder to work, but I used the copy I already had on my computer which was version 1.57.0.

The hijack this log now looks like this

Grindlay

Try this link...it is better to run the updated version :)

Then, with all other browsers closed, please fix the following item:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

Reboot, and post a fresh HJT logfile in this thread...
