I got hit with a something that kept opening C:\Windows\dl.html and "pornscanner.net", that I have pretty much beaten, thanks to a benevolent being on another spyware board. However, with the virus, the desktop changed to an image promoting a website. I deleted the images on my hard drive and now I have a white background and I cant get rid of it. It appears behind the desktop icons, but seems to be in front of the real background. If I go to the uppermost part of the screen, I can right-click and get to the usual properties menu. When I log on or log off, I can see the regular desktop for a short time. When I right click on the white and go to properties, i can see that it is an html document with the address "file://C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html". I have included a hijackthis log. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

I right-clicked on the whiteness and went to 'View Source.' It opened a text document named "C__WINDOWS_Web_desktop[1]" which contained this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
***** This file is automatically generated by Microsoft Windows *****
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1250"></HEAD>
style="BORDER-RIGHT: medium none; BORDER-TOP: medium none; BORDER-LEFT: medium none; BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none"
bottomMargin=0 bgColor=#004e98 leftMargin=0 background="" topMargin=0
style="LEFT: 0px; WIDTH: 1280px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 800px"><IMG
style="LEFT: 0px; WIDTH: 100%; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 100%" cache
src="file:///C:/WINDOWS/Web/Wallpaper/Bliss.bmp"> </DIV><IFRAME id=0
style="BACKGROUND: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%; LEFT: 0px; WIDTH: 1280px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 1px; HEIGHT: 769px"
name=DeskMovrW marginWidth=0 marginHeight=0
src="file:///C:/WINDOWS/Web/desktop.html" frameBorder=0 scrolling=no
subscribed_url="C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html" resizeable=""> </IFRAME>&nbsp;

I'm just putting this up here in case it will help someone solve this problem.
