They take their usual stance - spyware bad, honesty in online business good.

They even provide links to CWShredder, Spybot, and Ad-Aware at the bottom of the page.
Signature file is under revision. This will be back shortly.

what will they do to the ones who still go against the google code of ethics(google who misdirects as it suites to fake spyware removers)
lower there rating? misdirect searches so they don,t go to them? most likely nothing this is just media attention for them nothing else.

Actually I think google has cleaned up the AdWords - I haven't seen the ones with sbybot in them for a while. A lot of people wrote to google and complained. :p

FYI...

23 May 2004
"SEARCH ENGINE giant Google.com has recently posted on its web site a "Set of Principles" to combat all forms of malware (malicious software), spyware, and the like...Putting their war helmets on, the document continues: "We do not see this trend reversing itself. In fact, it is getting worse. As a provider of services and monetization for users, advertisers and publishers on the Internet, we feel a responsibility to be proactive about these issues. So, we have decided to take action."...What is a bit strange is that Google decided to embark on this crusade alone, with "we're the leaders - the industry should follow us" wording..."

(..and I bet they haven't bothered to contact Mike about any of this...)

Dear Ladies and Germs,

My SpyBlocker icon does a lot of blinking when I open a Yahoo page, which indicates that it's blocking a lot of spyware.

By contrast, I don't get one blink out of Google.

I can even browse around their Froogle (commercial / shopping) pages, and as long as I don't leave their domain, there is no spyware (according to my SpyBlocker).

OK, so Google is better than Yahoo. Faint praise maybe :|

On the subject of "writing campaigns," I wrote to Google, too. When the latest news was released last month that their stock was going public, I told them about my experiences with Yahoo (spyware and other bothersome advertising), and why I switched to Google, forever. I told them about my blinking SpyBlocker icon, etc.

I'm sure I'm not aware of all of Google's money making schemes. And it's OK if I painted them as being pure and innocent. I just wanted to make sure I sent them some feedback to let them know what I expected from my internet services, how they might develop my loyalty, and how they could lose it.

A human being wrote back a "Thanks for the fan mail!" email, which was nice.

Hopefully, they'll continue to evolve as a force for good.

CU,
-Neil-

Interstingly, if you click on the Google: "Did you mean Aleuria?" link at the top of the page that the Aluria search produces, the first link is to a type of fungus. And fungii, are plants that grow best in the dark, well away from the light of day - much like spyware. :p

They did. I made some suggestions to it and even convinced them to remove an obnoxious statement about how all software should update itself automatically.
