Hi there, I still have a hijacked browser and am _ this close to imploding the house with the computer in it. (Actually, I'me very grateful for the help Scoff has provided me with so far). I've run adware with the latest update, but still no such luck.

Below is the latest logfile from hijack this.

In future can you post your log into the original topic you started, by a fluke this was at the top of the first page when I went into the forum otherwise I wouldn't have seen it.

There is a new version of HijackThis (1.98) can you download it and post a fresh log into this topic.

http://www.spywarein.../HijackThis.exe

Download About:Buster by RubbeR DuckY from either of the following locations and save it to your desktop. DO NOT use it yet. We need to see the new log first.

http://www.atribune....AboutBuster.zip
or
http://tools.zerosre...AboutBuster.zip

Hint : if you haven't already click track this topic at the top of the page, you'll get an emailed link when theres a reply or then next time on your return go to my controls > view topics and it will be listed.

LOL. I guess I'm lucky. Sort of. Sorry about that. Here is the new logfile from the latest version of HijackThis. I've also downloaded the otehr app, but haven't used it yet.

Cheers,

Chris

Run HijackThis again and place a check beside each of the following items. Once done click the fix checked button.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CBD77B3F-8090-DD29-E058-34289DE3949A} - C:\WINDOWS\msam32.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [addpg32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\addpg32.exe

Make sure you have printed this page and close ALL Internet Explorer windows. This is a very important step!! Do not open internet explorer to come back here until after running the tool.

Run AboutBuster.exe, click ok, then start, then OK. This will scan your computer for the files responsible for hijacking your home and/or search settings/page. This may take a few minutes. It will also produce a report - save this somewhere. Then run aboutbuster.exe again, make a copy of that report also.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log along with the two reports from About:Buster.

OK i've done exacly what you've asked, with Aboutbuster, except I hit OK before I could copy the first report (I thought it would open up a report page, but I found out it only starts the second scan). So I am only able to provide the second Adbuster report and the HijackThis log

Here is the second Aboutbuster report

Looks like its gone, only the random dll remains.

Close all other windows, except for hijackthis and put a check against the following items and click 'fix checked'

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {64A6BEFF-15F2-8F55-C53D-6C41009ED9DA} - C:\WINDOWS\mfcit32.dll

These items are considered to be resource hogs that are not needed and it may be worthwhile to fix them with HJT. You will still be able to start them manually if you need them...

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Search for mfcit32.dll to double check it has gone, if not - delete it.

Clean out your temp folders
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary nternet Files\ [color=red]<=This will delete all your cached internet content ncluding cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
  • Empty your "Recycle Bin"
You are running Spykiller. This is a program that advertises itself as removing spyware, but it apparently gives false positives to get you to buy it and then does a miserable job. Some even thing that it may install malware. I recommend that you remove it in Add/Remove Programs. See this post for details about these programs:
http://www.safer-net...tail=2004-02-05

Do you have Kazaa? I ask because i can see P2Pnetworking. This is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywarein...m/articles/p2p/ If you opt to remove it, first use Add/Remove Program to remove it and any reference to Altnet and P2P Networking. Go to your control panel, then to add/remove programs...uninstall P2P networking...If/when asked whether you also want to remove Altnet components, say 'Yes'.
P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns. You may also want to run KazaaBegone....
