      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Won't load to my desktop after removing trojans

7 posts in this topic

I opened a file that infected my computer with spyware. AVG picked up on it and I clicked heal but it didn't do the trick. My desktop background then changed and it said that my computer was infected with spyware. I scanned right away using a program called SuperAntiSpyware and it picked up on a lot of trojans. In the middle of the scan though, it went to a blue screen and said it would be safe to log on using safe mode once it reboots. Before I could finish reading though it restarted.

I waited for it to load my desktop again but it wouldn't. So I restarted it and logged on using safe mode and ran a scan using SuperAntiSpyware again. It picked up on several trojans and what not and I removed them from my system and it asked me to restart. So I ended up doing so but it still won't load up my desktop. I had to log on using safe mode again and this time I scanned using Malwarebytes. It picked up on some things and I clicked remove. The log is posted below.

Then I used Spybot S&D. It picked up on Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled, task manager, windows explorer, and registry tools. It also had Win32.Delf.uc and Win32.Autoit. I had them removed and used SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes to scan through the computer again and this time it didn't pick up on anything. So I thought everything was good already and restarted my computer. Still the desktop won't load. I don't know what else to do.

I use Windows XP by the way. When I try to start up windows normally, it asks for a password which in normally doesn't and I just press cancel. It loads windows but it seems to just get stuck in the middle. I only get to see the background image but no icons of programs or folders. I can't even see the start button. A window pops up and says that windows explorer will not be able to load or something. Now it something different. When I close the window, it just seems like it's loading the desktop but nothing ever shows up.

I ran Spybot S&D again and the trojans I thought I deleted are back again so there's something that keeps reinstalling them everytime I start up.

Trojans:

Refpron

Win32.Delf.rtk

Win32.Delf.uc

Win32.Joleee.K

Browser:

MediaPlex

WebTrends Live

Security:

Windows Security Center Disabled

Hi,

I have bad news for you :(

I see you're dealing with Virut on top of the other nasty malware you are dealing with. In that case, it's unfortunately a lost case - Game over situation and a format and reinstall is the fastest and especially the safest solution.

You may want to read this why:

Virut and other File infectors - Throwing in the Towel?

So, I suggest you to start backup all of your valuable data/documents/pictures/movies/songs/etc.. Do NOT backup any applications/installers and Do NOT backup any .exe/.scr/.htm/.html/.xml/.zip/.rar files...

This because these files may be infected as well. If you back them up and replace them afterwards, it will infect your computer again.

Read here for instructions how to format and reinstall Windows: http://web.mit.edu/ist/products/winxp/adva...all-format.html

Thank you very much for replying to my thread. I appreciate it. It sucks that I have to reformat but I guess that's the best way to go about it. Will it keep installing more trojans when I turn on my computer or just when I'm connected to the internet? Sorry, I'm pretty new to this thing. I guess I just wanna know how much time I have to backup my files.

Hi,

Will it keep installing more trojans when I turn on my computer or just when I'm connected to the internet?
Yes, it does and also collects your personal info like passwords etc.

No need to connect with the internet to make backups though - just disconnect and put backups on cd or so.
