      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Malware Mostly Removed, but . . .

3 posts in this topic

Hi. My computer became infected two days ago and I removed most of the crap using Spybot before I found you guys. The problem I'm having now is: I'm unable to open Internet Explorer, even after Unistalling and ReInstalling the program. It starts to open Explorer but then stops halfway through and never fully loads. I also cannot open Firefox. I installed Firefox after the infection, or at least I THOUGHT I had installed it, but it won't even begin to load when I double click on the icon. The only browser it's letting me use is Google Chrome. My guess is that the virus I got is somehow blocking them? When I first got the virus, it popped up a bogus warning that my computer was infected, that it had detected 34 infected files and that I should update my computer protection. It severely crippled my ability to use most of the functions of my computer. It even put the "Your computer is INFECTED!" as my desktop in a big red box. I'm sure there are residual bugs left over from the infection and my novice attempts to fix with Spybot. Again, it seems something is blocking the process. Please let me know what you think. I have read the Forum and Posting Guidelines.

Hello nickyko. Welcome to SWI.

Please run the following scan and post the results back here to me.

  • Click here to use the F-Secure Online Scanner
  • Then click the Start Scanning button below.
  • You should get a notification (bar on top) to install the activeX.
  • Click on it and select to install the ActiveX.
  • Once the ActiveX is installed, you should accept the License terms by clicking OK below to start the scan.
  • In case you are having problems with installing the ActiveX/starting the scan, please read here.
  • Click the Full System Scan button.
  • It will start to download scanner components and databases. This can take a while.
  • The main scan will start.
  • Once the scan has finished scanning, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button
  • It could be possible that your firewall gives an alert - allow it, because that's a connection you establish to submit infected files to F-Secure.
  • The cleaning can take a while, so please be patient.
  • Then click the Show report button and copy/paste what is present under results in your next reply.
