Hi guys,

Sorry for adding another topic to the pile, but I just had rather a nasty shock where typing anything into Chrome's address bar (my default search engine is Google) redirected me to a nuseek.com website. I am usually a very careful browser and this literally came out of nowhere, and even more weirdly everything was working fine about half an hour after I discovered the redirect. Could you possibly have a look at a HijackThis log just to see if there's anything amiss? Thanks!

Log is as follows:

Hello Oirish_Martin. Welcome to SWI.

Please print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file. It will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

You are running HijackThis from a temporary folder. This is dangerous as HJT makes backups of its logs, and these backups will not be saved when you close the program if they are in a temporary folder.

Please navigate to your main drive (usually C:\)<<<create a new folder, and call it something you will remember such as: C:\HJT
Then locate the HijackThis.exe file and drag it into the folder you have just created.
The file can be found here: C:\Users\Documents\Downloads\HiJackThis.exe

Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a location you will remember.
  • Copy and Paste that log into your next reply.

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK for either of the prompts and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2

  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your Desktop, called GooredFix.txt).

Please post:
Security Check log.
MBAM log.
GooredFix log.
A fresh HJT log.
And let me know how the computer is performing now.
