Apologies in advance if this is too much information.

I have read the FAQ, run Spybot S&D ver 1.3, and Ad-aware ver 6.181 with the most recent updates. I am still getting hijacked by html#96676 after a reboot. This may be normal, but it appears to be clear the first time I hit Internet Explorer, but on subsequent launches it comes back. There are two odd things that seem to happen on reboot. One is that a window installer launches and says that it is configuring XP Office Professional. This was not happening prior to being hijacked. My first thought was to go back and restore from an earlier point. When I did that, I found that all my old restore points were gone.

Thanks for the response. I have followed the instructions from "Removing Home Search Assistant, shopping wizard and search extender" as you suggested. Unfortunatley, I am still being hijacked. I am using Ad-Aware 6.181 with the 01.07.2004 reference file. I reconfigured as per the instructions. I have run AboutBuster 123 several times (sometimes consecutively), and it removes several files. Sometimes they have the same name, sometime not. but there is a removal consistantly for _NS_Service_3. I know step 8 says to Wash, Rinse & Repeat until clean. Is this on the order of 3 times or 30 times. As a result of the my attempts to clean this and the propensity for this (*&(* to rename itself, I am including my current HijackThis log. As you state, I will not reboot until we exhaust possibilities.

Found the new load for About.Buster from RubbeR DuckY ver 1.24. By using that in conjunction with HijackThis, I am clear of this piece of trash. I highly recommend visiting his help page on running A:B.
