Hello wylco01,

You have a couple of infections showing, so this may take a few steps.

There appears to be some CoolWeb infection. Please download the latest version of CWShredder here:
http://www.spywarein.../CWShredder.exe
Run it, then click "Fix" (not Scan only) and let it fix all the variants it finds.
Then Reboot.
______

Next, take a free Online Virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com or http://www3.ca.com/v.../virusscan.aspx
______

Then please download About:Buster and unzip it to your desktop.

Start it, hit Ok, Start, And Ok to start the scan.

It will generate a log. Post that log, along with a new Hijack this log here.

Hey wylco01,

Go to Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) and click on "Processes" then "End Process" for these:

WINUPD
WINUPD.EXE

Then close Task Manager.

Now, open Hijackthis, click Scan, then put a check next to the following entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5B697B5C-438E-D818-F3DD-98A5E6A976F7} - C:\WINDOWS\crrh.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupd] C:\WINDOWS\System32\winupd.exe

O16 - DPF: {11010101-1001-1111-1000-110112345678} - ms-its:mhtml:file://c:\nosuch.mht!http://weba.directwe...nsearchie32.exe

Then, Close all open Windows and Browsers (have only HJT open) and click "Fix Checked".

Reboot to Safe Mode (tap F8 while restarting) to find and delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\winupd.exe

You may have to show hidden files:

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Then, reboot normally, and please post a new HJT log.

my free AVG virus scanner detected the downloader.agent.bf virus when i first posted. even after updating windows xp, AVG, and lavasoft adaware- then removing all the spyware and viruses (turned off system restore to delete the last of it allegedly), whenever i would start Internet Explorer, an AVG notification would pop up instantly and tell me the download.agent virus was detected again and as long as the browser was open more variations of the virus (.ba, .bf) were being detected. im currently using Opera and i haven't had anymore virus notifications and everything seems back to normal. should i even dare to open IE again?

Hi wylco01,

Is it only AVG that notices the downloader.agent.bf, or does HouseCall and eTrust find it also?

I don't see any signs of it in your log (actually, your log looks clean).
Try running AVG in Safe Mode. Then try running HouseCall and eTrust again.
Then download a Free Trial of Trojan Hunter and post back how you made out.

i checked on the box to show protected system files and i right clicked on the "system volume information" to adjust the security options so i could gain access to the folder. after changing the security i ran AVG and it FINALLY erased the last of the infected files. ive run every program and everything comes up clean.

Hi wylco01,

Glad to here that. :D
Your log looks clean.

Here is some free protection you should consider:
Download and install:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies.

IESPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Check for updates occaisionally.

And also see So how did I get infected in the first place?
