I've been attacked by a vicious bit of adware and am in the process of trying retake my computer from the brigands who've hijacked it.... and naturally this place looks to me like SALVATION ... but I'll be damned Hijack This (v 1.98) and CWshredder won't run. Hijack reports an error. Shredder just shows an hour glass for a few seconds and that's it. Nothing.

I've used a bunch of anti-spyware software and things are better, but my system is still not clean -- I got my first clean adaware 6.0 scan ever, but spybot S&D keep finding "DSO Exploit" values in the registry. Spybot fixes em, then they show up again... so clearly I've still got bugs.

I'd LOVE to post a Hijackthis log... but it won't run... can anyone suggest some work arounds or tell me how I might get the programs (especially hijack this) to run? I'm on an XP machine with a fast (3 gig) processor and plenty of memory.

Thanks in advance.

Doug.

The DSO is a bug that is being worked on, ignore them.

Have you tried placing them on a floppy and running them from there?

Also, Please don't PM me your hijack logs. I would you rather post them and PM me if you wish for me to look at them. A PM with a hijacklog will get ignored!

Hi Missess,

I've tried running hijackthis from a cd I burned (I don't 3.5 floppy on my system) and it wouldn't run same error as normally. NAV found the downloader virus in a few places and deleted it and I thought maybe my troubles were over, but no, I open IE and whammo... supergross porn page in my face. This stinks. I've disabled windows system restore. I've updated every anti virus and and adware prog. I tried running hijack this from safe mode. No luck.

*pitiful whine* -- Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Doug.

ok, lets do some cleaning up and hope it helps and if were lucky an expert will come by and have time to help us.. they are so overwhelmed :/

try this:

Go to start >Run and paste this in:
%Userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp folder
It will open your temp folder.
Go to the toolbar>Edit>Select All
Then go back to File>Delete

Then get an online virus scan here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Please select the Autoclean option when prompted.
or here: http://www.pandasoft...com/activescan/

Go here and get one of the free trials of an Anti Trojan and scan for Trojans.
http://www.wilders.o...nti_trojans.htm

After This, Reboot and try to Post a HijackThis log.
And well take it from there =)
