      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

Trojan Problem

7 posts in this topic

Edit: So far, the trojans seen to be gone. I've been scanning repeatedly with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and nothing seems to show up anymore. Plus the lag has been fixed dramatically. So I don't need help with this part now.

However, I'm still curious on why whenever I access certain safe websites, I still sometimes get trojan attacks on my computer...

Thanks.

Hi again. I seem to have another malware problem unfortunately. The problem is that it has lagged up my computer. Is there any way to remove the lag after the virus is gone?

I only get viruses when I access a certain website for a long period of time. The problem is that the website isn't a virus-filled website; I only get viruses on my computer and not other computers...

In addition, I thought I deleted this virus yesterday, but it appears to have come back.

Here's some information. I'll try my best to respond quickly and provide more information, but I might not respond as quickly due to work constraints unfortunately. Sorry if this becomes an inconvenience later. ]:

Thank you very much. :]

Edit: When I rebooted, on start-up, I got an error for each program that ran on startup.

For each program, I got an error message saying "The application or DLL c:\WINDOWS\system32\kuwovogi.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check against your installation diskette." or something similar to that.

Edit edit: Doing an F-secure Online quick scan. Posted. Can't post Full scan because computer keeps on freezing once it hits 66%.

Nov 2 Edit: posted new HijackThis log just in case at the end. Thanks.

Hi Excel, and Welcome to SWI

Sorry it has taken so long to get to you, but the board has been very busy lately, and all the Helpers here are volunteers.

I suggest printing out each set of instructions and reading the entire post before proceeding. It will make following them easier. Please follow the directions in the order listed.

Edit: So far, the trojans seen to be gone.

You still have malware in your last HijackThis log.

However, I'm still curious on why whenever I access certain safe websites, I still sometimes get trojan attacks on my computer...

It could possibly be that those site(s) in question have been compromised, or it could be because you still have malware in your log, and possibly on your system.

Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:

  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK

Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):

  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Private Data).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin

  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.

Now you need to run HijackThis and click "Do a system scan only." Place a check next to the following entries (if they are still there):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {e7f43ab7-2fc3-4ccc-a330-59a0be327fba} - worukehe.dll (file missing)

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: geligehu.dll

Now close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file and delete it (if still there):

C:\Windows\System32\geligehu.dll

In Internet Explorer, please run the BitDefender online scan at BitDefender.com

You will need to allow an ActiveX control to install for the scan to run.

Leave the scanning options at default and press "click here to scan"

When finished scanning, click on "click here to export the scan report"

Save it to your desktop, at "file name" type in "bdscan" then click save.

Please post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Please post a new HijackThis log, the log from the BitDefender scan, and note any errors encountered.

Hi, thanks for replying. In the HijackThis log, I deleted the two items. The geligehu.dll was not in the system32 folder anymore.

Thank you very much!

Everything that BitDefender found was in your Ssytem Restore, so that's good, nothing was actually running and it was only files stored in Restore Points.

Create a Restore Point

  • Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a Restore Point and then Next.
  • In the box for "Restore point description", enter a descriptive name and press Create
  • When the "Restore Point Created" window appears, click Close

Run Disk Cleanup

  • Go to Start > Run and type the below line:
    cleanmgr
  • Click OK
    • If you have more than one drive, select the drive Windows is installed on
    • Click OK

[*]When Disk Cleanup opens, select the More Options tab

[*]In the System Restore section (bottom of window), click Cleanup

    • In the confirmation window that opens, click Yes

[*]Now click on the Disk Cleanup tab and select the following items:

    • Downloaded Program Files
    • Temporary Internet Files
    • Recycle Bin
    • Temporary Files

    [*]Click OK

[*]in the confirmation window, select Yes (Disk Cleanup will close).

To help keep malware off your system:

  •
You need to install Windows Service Pack 3 (SP3) and all security related updates after that or your system will be needlessly vulnerable to exploits and infection.

  • Keep Windows updated at Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
  • Keep your other applications updated, there are vulnerabilities that rely on exploits through other programs like Java, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, Flash, and others.
  • Run a program like Secunia Software Inspector Scan to see what programs need to be updated.
  • Be careful with flash drives, as they can spread infections. See this post on USB/flash drive safety.
  • Stay away from P2P software; even with a clean P2P program, their networks are often riddled with malware.
  • Don't click on attachments or links in e-mail, and read your e-mail in text-only mode for the highest safety.
  • Don't click on links received in instant message programs.
  • In place of Internet Explorer, browse with Firefox with the NoScript and AdBlock Plus add-ons.
  • A HOSTS file will prevent Internet Explorer from communicating with sites known to be associated with adware or spyware. A good regularly updated HOST file is MVPS HOSTS File, available at http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm.
  • A free non-resident utility to prevent the installation of ActiveX-based malware is JavaCool's SpywareBlaster. For real-time protection, there is SpywareGuard. Both are available at http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/products.html.
  • I recommend reading Tony Klein's article So How did I get Infected in the First Place? at http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/index.php?showtopic=60955

Does your problem appear resolved?

Alright, nothing seems to be malfunctioning anymore.

If I have any random virus attacks come up again, I'll ask to reopen this thread.

Otherwise, everything is fine now.

Thank you very much for helping me.
