I was recently infected with lots of spyware after browsing a free porn site. I have already gotten rid of all of (or at least most of) the spyware, and now my computer is finally acting normal again, with one exception: Every time I start up my computer (or even when I do "Restart"), it says "Improper shutdown detected" and runs "Scan Disk".
Scan disk never finds any problems on the hard drive, so I usually hit "Cancel" while it's scanning. But still, it's very annoying to have to do this every time I boot up.
When I shut down, everything always seems fine. It never gets hung up or anything. My power supply shuts off automatically, so I never have to hit the power button, and when I do "Shut down" (from the Start menu), it always shuts down in only about 10 seconds and never indicates that there are any problems.
By the way, I used "Ad-aware" (updated so that it's the latest version) and "Spybot" (also updated) to remove the spyware. I didn't use "Hijack This" because it seems to be very user-unfriendly and I can't make much sense of the log files that it makes.
For your information, here are the spyware programs that Spybot found:
Toppop, Downloader.Dynac, Startpage.D, Downloader.Small, Startpage.4.S, JS/Psyme, ddm_d.exe, 15363711.exe, editpad.exe, justfun.exe, bu0hr41rbu.exe, and secure.php.
In addition, "Ad-aware" had already removed a bunch of other spyware programs before I ran Spybot, but I didn't save the log file, and anyway, Ad-aware didn't clearly show me the names of the spyware, so I don't know the names of the spyware that it found. But I "quarantined" everything that it found that it thought was suspicious.
I'm wondering if there are still one or more sypware programs on my computer which Spybot and Ad-aware didn't detect. Or maybe one of the spyware programs damaged some System software so that my computer "thinks" that it was shut down improperly.
