      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Hi Laurell

It may be a hardware problem that you're having with Scandisk, but I am concerned about the pop-up you mention. Microsoft don't tend to advertise this way and you certainly don't have to buy patches, they are a free download.

So let's check out a couple of things:

Take a free Online Trojan scan at TrojanScan.com

Next, take a free Online Virus scan at TrendMicro or Panda.

After completing the virus scan please download 'Hijack This!'. This program will help to identify if there are any nasties lurking in your PC. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Click My Computer, then C:\. In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.

That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT". Now you have C:\HJT folder. Unzip HijackThis into C:\HJT folder.

Double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.

Press that, save the log, then Ctrl-A to Select All, and paste its contents into this thread. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Sorry - Helper Trainee has been notified -

Tick the boxes next to all these, then close all browser and explorer windows, and tell HijackThis to "Fix checked". Then Reboot.

I do apologise for the oversight in not replying, Laurell. Please follow cnm's advice. You should then go to Windows Update and just follow the prompts. This should be done regularly, as new patches are released monthly.

As your PC is relatively clean, it seems more likely that your Scandisk problem is hardware-related.

I suggest that you download the diagnostics for your brand drive, and check the drive integrity.

If you do not know the brand, download Seagate SeaTools. After it is downloaded, double-click it, and it will create a bootable floppy disk with the diagnostic program on it. Then boot your problem computer using the bootable floppy, and choose the Generic Long test. It will create a report that you can read from within the program when the tests are complete, and it is also saved as a text file on the floppy disk.
