      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

Weird Hard Drive Activity is freezing my laptop

4 posts in this topic

First of all, thanks in advance for any help.. I've tried to be as thorough as possible! Here we go:

SYSTEM

Dell Studio XPS 13 (6 months old)

Vista 64bit

4GB RAM

500GB 7200RPM HDD

PROBLEM

It started last week. I had downloaded a patch/crack for Rosetta Stone off of bittorrent. Before I open these files I always scan it w/ ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, version 9.1.008. It detected a "Trojan", but I wrote it off as a mis-diagnosis. I opened it anyways, used it, it worked, I deleted the patch.

Since then, everytime I restart my computer and uTorrent opens automatically (like it should), my HDD activity light starts and stays SOLID 30 secs after uTorrent goes through "Checking" whatever files I'm downloading. And if I try to launch task manager through ctrl-alt-delete, computer freezes for good after a few minutes' wait. If I don't do anything, it'll slowly freeze up certain components (like Start button, mouse-clicking ability, etc) until my computer freezes for good after ~15min. "Freezes for good" means a black screen comes up (the laptop display is still on, it's just a black screen). To restart, I have to hold down the power button and give a nasty surprise to my poor hard drive.

What I've Tried

I've run:

ZoneAlarm Full Antivirus & Antispyware Scan

Spybot Search & Destroy Complete System Scan

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

F-Secure Online Virus Scan

BitDefender Online Virus Quick Scan

Panda ActiveScan Online Scan

HijackThis Log

RESULT

It's too early to tell, but I think for the most part, it's better. For example, when I restart my comp and uTorrent starts up, no freeze when it checks its files.

BUT, I still have random times of massive hard drive activity to the point where it slows my web browser (Mozilla Firefox, latest version) to a crawwwwl. Also, Windows Explorer will slow down during these times, and will sometimes freeze for a few seconds, as will iTunes, or whatever other program I'm using. This sort of thing NEVER happened before last week (when I opened that patch/crack).

I check under Resource Manager, to see which service/process is using my HDD during these times. Mainly, it's just regular programs I've installed or "vsmon.exe" or some sort of "net????.exe" program that was running under "System" (don't remember what was after "net.." just that it was something like "netaux.exe" or something like that.)

Please help! I want to migrate over to Windows 7 and I don't want to infect that fresh install with any files I'll be copying over!

Hi,

I'm nasdaq and will be helping you.

Print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps.

The only think that I would like to check is this process.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Pandora\Pandora.exe

Did you install this and know what it is?

The manufacturer's name and a link would be appreciated so that I can update our database.

If unknown please submit the file in bold to the following link for a scan, then post the results in your next message for me to see.

http://virusscan.jotti.org/

===

"vsmon.exe" or some sort of "net????.exe"

vsmon.exe is from ZonaAlarm, do you have an other firewall working at the same time?

As for net???.exe I need the exact filename to give any advice.

Please run this security check for my review.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
