I just ran Malwarebytes which discovered a lot of malware and removed it. Already my computer is running much faster than it has in ages. I would like to know if there is any malware or problems left on my computer at this point and if there is anythign else I need to do.

This is a copy of the Malwarebytes logfile. I will follow with a Hijackthis log run after the malwarebytes removals.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.44

I uninstalled Messenger Plus3. I then opened Hijackthis and checked the ones you listed. However, I was unable to find O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3\MsgPlus1.exe". Perhaps because I did the uninstall first?

I am going to download Security Check now

After looking at the Security Check report myself I decided to update both Adobe reader and Java.

I attempted to download the updated Java version but the download kept timing out and I wasn't able to get it.

I have now installed Adobe 9.3

That is exactly what I tried to do yesterday for Java. I could not get the download. It kept reconnecting and then told me the maximum number of retries had been reached. I went back to the original page and tried again 3 times and always the same thing happened.

I just tried again one more time now before heading out for work and again it did the same thing. I cannot get the download. Do you have any ideas why that would be happening?

Thank you. I haven't had a chance to use this computer a whole lot yet today but things seem OK for the most part. The one thing that is happening is that when I first come back from an extended period of screen saver, or sleep mode, and try to open IE the page lags in the white screen on the first attempt and I have to use Task Manager to close it and then re-open it and it opens fine the second time. Maybe I am just rushing too much and the computer is not ready to run the program yet but I don't recall it always being like that. I haven't tested this with Firefox yet, I keep forgetting. I'm not sure how much time I will have to be on the computer tonight so it may take me a few days to fully tsee if there are any other issues.

Thanks, I read the article but I don't know what to do with it. It tells me which system is better to use but not how to tell what I am using or how to change it if needed.

I have tried launching the internet again a few times after being away from the computer for extended periods and can now say it definately only happens with Internet Explorer. Firefox launches perfectly fine.

Reset your computer restore point, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has
administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn OFF System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
=*=

When done get the XP Service Pack 3 from Microsoft and install it.

I did the system restore thing. I ran Windows Update and it won't install SP3 on my computer. I get the following message: "Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer"

I dont know what that means.

I looked at my services and found Cryptographic Services ... checked the properties and it was on and set to Automatic. Tried Update again with no success. Finally I disabled my antivurus program and retried the update and it seems to be working now. I"ll let you know if I have any further problems.

SP3 is installed now and the problem still persisted so I then installed IE8 and things seem to be OK now. Thanks.
