Other than telling Zone Alarm not to give IEXPLORE access to the net, is there any other settings changes I can implement to ensure this evil piece of 'software' has no influence on my web activity at all?

Cheers for any help.

Unfortunately you will still need to use Internet Explorer to access the Windows Updates! nothing else can be used.
If IE is closed, and blocked with ZA there is nothing else you can do.
Be wary of strong drink. It may make you shoot at tax collectors, and miss!

I've never actually used Windows Updates. Should I be?

I run Win98 and it's never prompted me to update that I can remember.

If it did, I probably ignored it cuz I despise and distrust Microsoft.

Have I missed something here?

Thanks

If u despise and distrust MS so much, y do u even use Windows ?! Shift to Linux or MacOS. :p Ok ... jokes apart .... yes u should update ur OS. Even if it doesn't ask (n thats probably cos u've deleted the update utility or set no automatic update reminder), u should. It's always better to keep up with the latest updates, patches or fixes. Not only for ur system, but also for a network (if u're connected to 1, that is). :D

You should download and install ALL critical updates for both windows, and Internet Explorer, even if you do not intend to use it.

Thanks to the two above respondees.

Yeah I have another computer with Caldera OpenLINUX installed, but am still learning in the UNIX universe and [reluctantly] require a Win platform during the interim.

Sadly, I am also limited, in terms of TIME, by the capitalist dictatorship I live in, and have not yet had enough free time to read about WINE and other such things which will make the transition worthwhile.

I guess it's about time I registered with a Linux forum.. :)
