My PC won't shut down when I turn it off the normal way. After I click on "turn off" nothing happens even though the the light on the hard drive flickered a few times, but that's it. It's been like this a few days, i have to press and hold the start up button to turn it off. Here's my log:

Hi,
This happens when there's a conflict. One of the things you can check is your power management. Set everything there to "never" and see if that will resolve this issue for starters...Keep us posted.

Hi,
When a problem like this happens, the conflict can be the result of several types of problems. Can you please try this one, I know it can be frustrating but at this point and time, the process of elimination can eventually narrow down the culprit.

Go to www.microsoft.com and type in I do believe in the upper right side of the Microsoft page the following article number 262575. (The article should be titled "Computer hangs during shut down because of reource conflict"..............

Keep us posted

Hi,
As you can see this is not a simple issue to solve. I did not see in your previous postings saying what type of operating system you have. Is it Windows 98, Windows Me or Windows Xp ? The reason I ask is because Windows 2000 for example power management I do believe is not enabled by default. Also before you reply to this one can you scope out another Microsoft Article #315664...
