I sadly don't know anything about computers and am thus cluless (dependent upon google) to try and fix things... here's my problem:

Somehow my browser was redirected to www.whatsfind.com (DON'T GO THERE!) and was afterwards hijacked. My homepage is frozen on whatsfind, it's impossible for me to change it (the options are grey, unclickable) I've already tried the Spybot Search and Destroy (at your website's recommendation) and it doesn't help. I suppose I have to change the registry, though I need step-by-step assistance in how to do this.

ANOTHER problem I've had: Several months ago I installed SpyKiller to remove unwanted parasites/spyware, and I noticed that there was about a 15-20 second delay before loading whenever I manually entered an address in the address bar. Clicking on links or clicking on saved favorites has however no delay.

SO I decided to download Search and Destroy, and although it gets rid of spyware, etc., the delay time between entering the link and loading the page is literally at least 50 seconds, sometimes as long as 90 seconds. It is so bad that I will go to google (which I have saved as a favorite) and search for a website just so that I don't have to type it in manually and wait.

please, please, please help me... I'm not computer savvy, but my Toshiba laptop is only 4 months old and I'm just about ready to throw it in the garbage. Internet is better on my 1994 desktop.

Thanks!

We need a closer look at what's happening.
Please download Hijack this
Copy it into its own folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, do Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

I can't open the link that you posted in your reply; the window says 'the site you are looking for is not available' (web address: http://www.incredifi...HijackThis.exe) Incredifind is, I believe, part of the www.whatsfind.com chain that I'm stuck in.

I also tried going through the website and manually finding the Hijack This link under software, and when I clicked on the zip file, the same window came up saying the site is unavailable.

Can you email me the zip file perhaps? Or send it to me via IM?

I'm sorry to be so much trouble. I'm so frustrated and upset.

Hello, Dave38 went to sleep early today. :-p.

Ok open Hijack This and tick the box next to this item only.

R3 - URLSearchHook: IncrediFindBHO Class - {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\BHO\INCFIN~1.DLL

Then close all windows and hit fix checked. Now you should be able to download things and visit sites without being redirected.

Download Ad-Aware 6.0. Install it. Run it and update by hitting the globe in the top right hand corner and then connect. When it sais found new reference file hit ok. Then hit finished.

Secondly hit next and right after than scan. The program should scan for files. Once it is done hit next. Check the boxes fir removal next to all the items in Ad-Aware. Then hit next to start removal. Restart your computer.

Post a new Hijack This log.

Okay, I fixed that one problem and then opened my browser, and because my homepage is set to whatsfind (I literally cannot change this setting) it brings me back to the million popups and constricted Internet freedom, thus not solving anything.

I then ran the check again, and this exact key no longer exists. In case you wanted to see the new log, here it is (and if not, then I apologize for the space!):

Was downloading Ad-Aware a problem? That is the most necessary tool for you right now.

If you are having problems with browsing try this tool
CWShredder. Unzip it to a folder. Then run it and hit fix. Try downloading Ad-Aware then.

Okay, with Adaware I had 246 files to clean up (!) which I successfully did, and on multiple scans there were no more bad files, so I'm a happy camper! I ran Hijack This again like you said, and here's the log. Let me know what the next step is (if there is one) because I can (HALLELUJAH) change my homepage and thus am not subject to the deadly parasites!!!!!! Happy.

Here's the log:

Should the Fat Puppy folder be deleted manually or through the Control Panel? Also there is a random Application file named 'Pup' in the Program Files, is this related to Fat Puppy or should I just ignore it? Thanks!

Hahah okay, I tried going through the Control Panel and it just didn't work, so I manually deleted Fat Puppy. I still don't know about the Pup Application though...

Carefully following the instructions that you gave to me, I was unable to locate two of the files you told me to delete after running Hijack This again:

04 - HKLM\..Run: [gfxdoi] C:\Windows\System32\gfxdoi.exe
04 - HKLM\..Run: [toskrnln] C:\Window\System32\toskrnln.exe

Similarly, after following the steps to view the hidden files, I could not locate and thus delete

C:\Windows\System32\gfxdoi.exe
C:\Windows\System32\toskrnln.exe

However, everything else you told me to do has been done, except for one slight thing: SpyKiller had been uninstalled from my computer over a month ago (through the Control Panel). Should I worry that some of the files are 'left over'?

I run Ad-aware constantly and am finding everytime 5-9 files to fix. Afterwards, the first few times I use my IE, there are no pop-ups, but thenafter I start to receive several. I run Ad-aware again, and they're gone momentarily, only to return after a few more clicks. Something is still plaguing the computer.

Here is the log I just ran with Hijack This:

Have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

O2 - BHO: MxTargetObj Class - {0000607D-D204-42C7-8E46-216055BF9918} - C:\WINDOWS\mxTarget.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zdvdadmxtphfb] C:\WINDOWS\System32\oiqpkqp.exe

Reboot and delete the file C:\WINDOWS\System32\oiqpkqp.exe

This may be a "morphing" file that changes its name on every reboot. to ensure that you find the correct item, please note it's position in your log. The position will be the same, even if the name is changed to another random collection of letters!

These may be hidden files. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Please post a followup Hijack this log, and say if your problems persist.

I was able to delete the file via Hijack this but when I tried to delete the file in My Computer, it said that the file was currently in use. I had no open windows, no programs running, and this happened directly after a reboot when I know nothing of my doing was running... any ideas?

Hm.....
Try rebooting into safe mode, fixing the entry with Hijack this, and then, WITHOUT rebooting, search for and delete the file.

(To access safe mode, tap the F8 key repeatedly as the computer boots. Choose safe mode from the options menu.)

Good morning!

It really does seem as if everything is in order again. Do you know if the delay in loading websites entered manually in the address bar was due to the spyware or is that something else? It's speedier than ever now, thanks to you! (:

Here is my latest Hijack This log... please let me know if anything else looks suspicious. I really, really appreciate your assistance. I can't thank you enough!!
