Hi there,

I'm really really rusty on HJT logs and haven't posted in a long time. Basically, I'm trying to fix my dad's computer.

Firefox start page has been redirected to hxxp://www.searchnu.com/406 [link disabled]

Spybot says that there are no immediate threats. I've posted the HJT log below although it gives an error

'"For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HiJackThis may NOT be able to fix this.'"

I've never encoutered that before.

I'd be grateful for any help you could give me please.

Hello gateway. Welcome back.

Please go here and follow the instructions for DDS and Security Check.

Next:

To backup your Registry
First of all create a new folder on the desktop and give it a name you will remember such as Registry backup.

• Click Start
• Type run
• Click Run (at top)
• Type Regedit in the box
• Click OK
  A new Window will open.
• Click File
• Click Export
  Find the folder you just created and click Save.

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from here.

• Unzip the contents to a folder on the Desktop.
• Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exe ( right-click and select Run as adminsistrator for Vista and Windows 7).
• Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
• Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.
• Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed.
• Please post the two logs produced.
