      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Hijacked over to Google

6 posts in this topic

...First off, thanks for offering help, and do take care of the more dangerous, acute cases first-- my problem seems to be more annoying than a hazzard.

I was able to clear out previous hijackers simply by following other's posts here, but I'm stumped by this one. It popped up about 2 days ago.

IE seems to work fine for a while, then quits going to my normal homepage and opens on Google instead. I have ( and have used for years ) Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spywareblaster, AVG, and they have been updated. Online virus & trojan scans show nothing- my workaround has been to use Firefox, but I'd sure like to find and nuke the little SOB causing this.

Here my HJT log:

What I am about to point to is offerred as "for your information, take it for what it is worth"- and proceed at your own risk.

I *think* I've cleared the bugger- my start page has not been hijacked to Google ( as it has been for days ) after a day's worth of reboots and restarts.

The only thing I did differently this morning was, after aboutbuster, findnfix, cws, AA, S&D,AVG, and a few more, failed yet again, I went here:

http://easyrcon.com/spyremove/

-and followed all the advice on the forums linked at the bottom of the page for "brute-force manual removal."

Proceed with caution- I did so many different things I cannot honestly recall them all- but something *may* have worked. So far, so good.

The only 2 things otherwise different about today versus the last few weeks of misery is that I re-installed the latest IE-spyad files, which block over 5,000 sites know to download crapware, and am running the trial version of Avast! anti-virus... it caught 282 files that all the other antiviruses had missed. Including changes in command.com, Kernel32, and 3 other systems files, which again, all the others had not detected.

But these two latter steps did not stop the hijack until I dug through my files and registry using the info in those links.

Just be aware you are tampering with tricky stuff if you use the brute-force approach.

I'm running Win 2K pro, with all the updates, on a couple of 800mhtz machines, with a hardware firewall ( Westell wirespeed DSL modem ) and all the usual anti- this & that software. I was seriously considering fdisking and formatting both.
