HELPPPP.... OK, so I've blamed my daughter and her music and games for the slowdown of a relativly new computer Running XP Pro. I did realize that it only had 256k of memory and bumped it to 512k but it hasn't helped much.

On several occassions when I rebooted I noticed the CPU process at 100%. I then looked into running processes and found things like LePE6.exe and other unknowns. I have been running Ad-Aware 6.0 and also ran CWShredder. Neither one turned much up. After goign through this forum I downloaded and ran Hijack this, one of the things it found was the above exe in a TEMP folder under my daughters name. I'm thinking this is not supposed to be there....here is the log file, can anyone help??

Hello, pat.

First, can you please end the following processes by right-clicking your taskbar and selecting task manager, then choosing the "procceses" tab"
C:\docume~1\emma\locals~1\temp\LePE6.exe
C:\Windows\System32\IteLZ6Q.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ZhdNmV4l.exe

After that please start up HijackThis again and place a checkmark next to the following lines, then press the "Fix Checked" button:
O2 - BHO: WinPage Affiliate - {E8EAEB34-F7B5-4C55-87FF-720FAF53D841} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\midaddle\midaddle.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updater] C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LePE6] C:\docume~1\emma\locals~1\temp\LePE6.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [4S2NSLA3QS#366] C:\Windows\System32\Eqtz6w9.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dsi] C:\Windows\System32\dp-him.exe
O16 - DPF: {00000EF1-0786-4633-87C6-1AA7A44296DA} - http://www.originali...mbers/arrtv.cab

Now, reboot your computer and delete the following file(s)/folder(s) (if they still exist):
C:\Windows\System32\dp-him.exe <-file
C:\Windows\System32\Eqtz6w9.exe <-file
C:\Program Files\Common Files\midaddle\ <-folder
C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\ <-folder

Then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\emma\Local Settings\temp and delete all of the files inside (not the folder itself).

Make sure you are showing hidden files and folders (Open an explorer window and go to Tools->Folder Options->Views and choose "Show hidden files and folders").

Now post a new HijackThis log. Are you still having problems?

Thanks.

Ok, thanks for the help. It seems that the Eqtz.... file was still there, after a 2nd fix it seems gone but a new wacky file "Cpjy.." shows up. Are these related?

My wife also seems to be running 2 verisons of a process called "FnxOY" that seems to be new. Is this getting worse? My fear is a drive wipeout but if I have to I will...

Thanks again for the help.

First download and run This uninstaller:

http://experts.spywa...eter/uninst.exe

Note: Just click on the uninst.exe and let it run. When it is finished it will just close. There will be no dialogue. Also you must be connected to the internet for the uninstaller to be effective.

Next, use the following tool to delete the files themselves:

http://mjc1.com/file...pertobackup.exe

Download it, it will self extract to c:\.

Restart to safe mode (tap F8 at start-up).

Before you boot to safe mode you should copy these instructions to notepad and have them on the desktop or somewhere

In safe mode Navigate to:

C:\drpeper\

Doubleclick the Find backup and Delete Peper files.vbs file

On the first prompt copy and paste:

FnxOY.exe

And hit ok.

On the second, paste:

Cpj5Y.exe

And hit ok.

Reboot.

When finished go to the C:\drpeper folder and locate the peper.txt file. Copy and paste the list from the Peper.txt file here , along with another Hijack This log.

Thanks for all the help. I did what you said and it all seemed fine but the program never found the FnxOY.exe or Cpj5y.exe files so it did not create a txt file. I did a search and found the name at the front a "prefetch" file? I'm not sure what they are but the file name is "FNXOY.EXE-35011C08.pf", there are a bunch of wacky named prefetch files, some with letters and numbers in the name. Any idea what these do?

Here is the latest hijack log - I ran one from Emma's log in and one from my wifes.

Thanks Again!!!

Cleaning the prefetch is really an optional fix. I can link you to a tool that can do it for you; although, I've never used it myself so I cannot vouch for it's usefulness.

The site I will link you to tells you what the prefetch is/does and has a download mirror on the tool.
The site is here

Other than that, your logs look clean. I want to thank you for your patience - especially when fixing your Peper infection.

Please visit this article to learn how to make sure things like this don't happen again.
Quote from Original CWS Article at SWI: "There could be other domains involved in the future." ... We've come a long way since then

PM me if you know what that says. Whoever gets it right gets put here!
