I use firefox, just updated to the latest version.
Pop ups appearing are just ads, a couple of pages or so open up every time I use firefox, not inmediately and they don't appear up front, I see them when I close whichever page I'm reading.
In the history they appear as

I am afraid that you are going to need to go to a Mac (Apple) forum for help on this...  We only deal with PCs running Windows in this forum...

Helpful link: SpywareBlaster...

Here is an article on free Mac antivirus programs. I would note that one of the free programs, ClamXav, should be avoided. I'm not familiar with the Mac version, but the PC version has generally had one of the worst detection results of any AV program:

Free Tools for Fighting Malware
Anti-Virus: avast! Free Antivirus / Avira Free AntiVirus
OnLine Anti-Virus: ESET / BitDefender / F-Secure
Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware / Dr.Web CureIt
Spyware/Adware Tools: MVPS HOSTS File / SpywareBlaster
Firewall: Comodo Firewall Free / Privatefirewall
