We have read the FAQ. Prio to this we did Spybot S&D and Ad-ware Professional. It removed spyware but did not fix our browser hijack problem. Please help.

Get CWShredder from: http://www.spywarein.../CWShredder.exe
or from: http://www.downloads.../CWShredder.exe

Save it into its own folder and then run it and let it fix all it finds, then reboot.

Now, I need you to relocate HijackThis. Create a folder via Windows Explorer for HijackThis (such as C:\HJT), then move the file (HijackThis.exe) to that folder. This way any backups created are saved in a legit folder.

Run another HJT scan, and post it here for further review.

Thanx for your help. We did the CW Shredder. Didnt know whether to update Windows XP or to whether we needed to delete Java VM. Once this is fixed we will not use Internet Explorer. Will try Mozilla as suggested in one of the articles I have read here. We are so thankful for your help.

The log looks clean - CWShredder did its job well.

Updating Windows with the critical updates is a must so try to stay current on those. Microsoft's Java VM has been shown to be vulnerable so replacing it with Sun's is a good idea.

One optional fix in your HJT log is PowerReg Scheduler. This is a registration reminder that is used by a number of different companies. It is not needed and some people think that it reports back to the company about your computer, so I suggest fixing it. If you choose to do so, run a new HJT scan and mark this item:

O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

Make sure all browser and Windows Explorer windows are closed, and click on Fix Checked.

Finally, you should clear out your System Restore so you don't accidentally re-enable the malware.

A. Click Start > Control Panel > System
B. Under the System Restore tab, place a check mark in the box next to "Turn off System Restore on all drives" and click "Apply"
C. Reboot the computer
D. Repeat step A and uncheck the box selected in step B, click "Apply", a clean restore point will be created automatically (no need to reboot again).

For future prevention, consider SpywareBlaster - it doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed: http://www.wildersse...areblaster.html

It will work with Mozilla Firefox, too.
