      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

PLEASE READ - Reversing upgrade   02/23/2017

We have found that this new upgrade is somewhat of a disaster.  We are finding lots of glitches in being able to post and administer the forum.  Additionally, there are new costs associated with the upgrade that we simply cannot afford.  As a result, we have decided to reverse course and go back to the previous version of our software.  Since this will involve restoring it from a backup, we will lose posts that have been added since January 30 or possibly even some before that.    If you started a topic during that time, we urge you to make backups of your posts and you will need to start the topics over again after the change.  You can simply paste the copies of your posts that you created at that point.    If you joined the forum this month, you will need to re-register since your membership will be lost along with the posts.  Since you have a concealed password, we cannot simply restore your membership for you.   We are going to backup as much as we can so that it will reduce inconvenience for our members.  Unfortunately we cannot back everything up since much will be incompatible with the old version of our software.  We apologize for the confusion and regret the need to do this even though it is not viable to continue with this version of the software.   We plan to begin the process tomorrow evening and, if it goes smoothly, we shouldn't be offline for very long.  However, since we have not done this before, we are not sure how smoothly it will go.  We ask your patience as we proceed.   EDIT: I have asked our hosting service to do the restore at 9 PM Central time and it looks like it will go forward at that time.  Please prepare whatever you need to prepare so that we can restore your topics when the forum is stable again.

I get the usual popups with homepage redirects, winpatrol frequently notifies me of new random .dll's. I've been using ad aware, hijackthis, cws shredder, etc and they fix the problem temporarily. Every day I run hijackthis and delete all the R1's, R0's, and the one extra O2 that always, always! shows up (different names of course). I didnt delete them this time so I could show you. Just now I got find n fix to work and create a log file with a suspicious .dll that doesnt show up in my system32 folder (ctl.dll). I went according to the instructions by BOB O- rebooted into safe/command prompt mode and entered this particular .dll in hopes of renaming it and having ad aware delete it, but still the .dll doesn't show up thru "dir" command. Rather than keep rambling, I was hoping to get advice from someone much more knowledgeable than I am. Any help is extremely appreciated!

Due to errors on various message boards I made some changes.

You must know how to ID the file based on the filters provided in

the scan, as not all the files flagged are bad.

If you make a mistake or use the wrong guidance, it is completely

your responsibility and the helper that assists you.

If you are not sure about the nature of the file or how

to proceed, I suggest you research it first before attempting

to remove any *unknown file on your own.

*For Helpers and/or users that are not familiar with any of the

items on the scan results- I recommend using an alternative, once

you know what to look for!

Well done!

File identified!

This will take couple or more steps to fix.

Be sure to Follow the next set of steps carefully, in

the exact order specified:

1.)

*Get ready to restart your computer.

- Open the FINDnFIX\Keys1< Subfolder And

DoubleClick on the "FIX.bat" file.

-You will get a prompt preparing for auto-restart in 15 seconds.

-Let it restart!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.)

On restart, Go to Start/Search, and find:

CTL.DLL (Should be in System32 folder)

-When found, select the "CTL.DLL" file (as it should be visible)

And use the folder's top menu:

edit>......move to folder>... (From the search results)

Scroll and Select the following path as destination:

-> C:\ -> FINDnFIX... -> Click once to expand, and select the

->...junkxxx Subfolder as final destination, and move

the "CTL.DLL" into that Subfolder.(C:\FINDnFIX\junkxxx)

(you might get a prompt about 'read-only' file -Simply 'ok' it!)

--------------------------------------------------------------

3.)

When done, Open the C:\FINDnFIX folder and

Run the "RESTORE.bat" file ,

It should run and generate new log (log1.txt)

Post it here.

===================================================

*Note:

Do not change/move around or

tamper with any of the file(s) folder(s) and path

included in the 'FINDnFIX' folder.

Nearly done! ;)

Last step(s):

-Open the FINDnFIX\Files2< Subfolder:

Run the -> "ZIPZAP.bat" file.

It will quickly clean the rest and

will create a zipped copy of the bad file(s) in the same

folder (named as-- junkxxx.zip) and open your email client with instructions:

Simply drag and drop the 'junkxxx.zip' file from

the folder into the mail message and submit

to the specified addresses! Thanks!

(Please include the link in your mail to the board

that assisted you, so any errors in the process could be traced back!)

When done, restart your computer and

Delete and entire 'FINDnFIX' file+Subfolder(s)

From C:\

As for the remains, run any and all

removal tools once again as they should work properly now!

In particular,

CWShredder.exe and fully updated Ad-Aware!

Feel free to post follow up hijackthis log when done! ;)

P.S

To avoid and prevent immediate reinfection, you need to visit Windows Updates (link(s) bellow), scan and apply any and all security patches on offer, including but not limited to IE6/SP1!

Your current version is outdated for some time now and quite vulnerable!

Now oddly enough just before saving this log (just after running ad aware), I got a popup from winpatrol warning me of my homepage being changed. I did have one R1 which I just deleted (R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank), and ran hijackthis 2 more times since then just to see if something reappears, and everything is looking clean as a whistle. Computer is operating very smooth for a change! I'm exstatic! Thank you again for your help!!! I was working on trying to rectify this problem for over 1 month!! I'm going to stay up for a little while longer to see if hijackthis detects anything, but it looks to be solved ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
