Hello,

I would really appreciate if somebody could give me an idea of how to solve this problem. It seems that we were infected by the Peper trojan. We run a program that was recommended, also Adaware and Spybot, and we might have gotten rid of it. But in the meantime, we lost our internet connection.
Also, if I go to the add/remove programs window, it lists "Web savings from Ebate", but I can not remove it. Any idea of what that is?

Thank you!

Alejandra

Hi,
When I had to delete it from my computer I did the following:
(1) Start, run, type in msconfig, click on start up
(2) Look for Websavingsfromebates and uncheck it
(3) Click apply, click ok and when asked if you want to restart your computer, click no.
(4) Go to start, control panel, add/remove and click on websavingsfromebates, click remove.
(5) Go to start, run, type in regedit, click on Hkey_local_machine, then software, the microsoft, then windows, then current version, then run and if you see it in the pane to your right, left click to highlight it, right click to delete.
(6) If you do not see it there, do the same steps under Hkey_current_user.
(7) Back out (and please only do steps 5 & 6 if you are familiar with playing in the registry), and reboot.

In regards to losing your Internet Connection this has happened to me twice in one week on two different computers I was removing spyware from. Information I was able to ascertain stated when two spyware/adware items are removed called Newdotnet and commonname, they unfortunately cause the loss of Internet Explorer. I have since repaired both computers. What's known as Winsock2 gets corrupted. My reccomendation is (and of course this is providing it's what caused the same problem for me) is to go to www.microsoft.com and in the upper right side type in the following article number 811259 and on page three of this you will see where it says "How to recover from Winsock2 corruption. Follow that as stated and under that you will also need to do step 2 where it says "Install TCP/IP" as well. Both times it only took me 5 min's approx to do both steps...Good luck and keep us posted...
