Hello please download About:Buster Version 1.25 and unzip it to your desktop. Start it, hit Ok, Start, And Ok again to start the scan. It will generate a log. Post that log along with a new Hijack this log here.

I have the same probles as you. I tracked this down a bit and got this far: It seems to be a cookie?? (cgi-bin)that initiates a connection to some website which uploads a file on my computer usually GLB1A2B.EXE, or with any other name and then has a pending rename in registry to change the name to GLB1A2B.EXE. This is then run and it creates a *dll file which is loaded in to memory. This *.dll then hijacks my IE homepage to sp.htm. Which is located current users temp, for ex in C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Local Settings\Temp (win2k). I have used Hijackthis but it seems that there is still somethig i am missing, because this GLB1A2B.EXE keeps coming back. I also have tried Ad-aware 6.0 and it finds the changes and the *dll and removes them, but after some time the hijack is back. S&D has the same features. Even CWSshredder does not help. So there has to be something that loads this hijackker back after i remove it, but what is it ???
I have also tried aboutbuster.
Anyone, any ideas
thanks
Martinrane

Download About:Buster and unzip it to your desktop. Start it, hit Ok, Start, And Ok again to start the scan. It will generate a log. Post that log along with a new Hijack this log here.

Note: You may need to run it a few times in Normal mode or reboot into safe mode and try it. Directions.

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?

You may need to show hidden files .How to show all hidden and system files

locate (if found) these files.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\atlkk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\mspg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\msql.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\appfg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkap32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdklc32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winoc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\appdz.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcqw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\msdu.exe

Zip them up and send them Here.then delete them.

Now close all open windows AND browsers and check these items for HJT to fix:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F8DDF512-628B-C53E-4663-3C73A0A7220B} - C:\WINDOWS\atlzv32.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [atlkk.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\atlkk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [mspg.exe] C:\WINDOWS\mspg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [msql.exe] C:\WINDOWS\msql.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [appfg.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\appfg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [sdkap32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkap32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [sdklc32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdklc32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [winoc.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winoc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [appdz.exe] C:\WINDOWS\appdz.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [mfcqw.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcqw.exe

and delete these files:
C:\WINDOWS\iegz.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcqw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\atlzv32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\msql.exe

The following DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleted while in safe mode.
* C:\Windows\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet
content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested.
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Then disable your system restore

1 Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2 Click the System Restore tab.
3 Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
4 Click Apply
5 this will delete all existing restore points. Click Yes to do this.
6 Click OK.

Reboot into normal mode enable System Restore and post a fresh log in this thread to give you further recommendations.

How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= Please check this link for instructions on how to download, install and then use adaware. Donīt use it yet.
1 You already have Adaware installed. Make sure it's up to date. Just open Adaware and click on *Check for Updates Now* and then *Connect*. It will find a new reference-file. Click *ok* and let it download and install the updates by clicking on *Finish* .This will return you to the main screen. You should now see Reference File # : 01R332 12.07.2004 or higher listed.

2 Print out these instructions so you have them handy as most of the steps need to be done in safe mode and you may not be able to go online.

3. Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called "Network Security Service". When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.If this service is not listed go ahead with the next step.

4. Reboot to Safe Mode
How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

5. Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

6.CLOSE ALL WINDOWS AND BROWSERS Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iegz.exe] C:\WINDOWS\iegz.exe

7. delete the following files if present.

C:\WINDOWS\iegz.exe

8. Double click AboutBuster.exe that you downloaded earlier. Click OK, click Start, then click OK. This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. Save the report(copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.

9. Scan with Adaware and let it remove any bad files found.

10. Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

11. Reboot to normal mode, scan again with Hijack This and post a new log here.

12. Finally, do an online scan HERE. Let it remove any infected files found.

Post a fresh HijackThis log and the AboutBuster report back here please.

Good job!

You have RealPlayer running at Startup and this is not necessary. You can fix this with HJT, but you will also need to set it not to load in RealPlayer itself to keep it from resetting itself. This is the item to fix in HJT:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Replace Deleted Files
It is also possible that the infection may have deleted up to three files from your system. If these files are present, to be safe I suggest you overwrite them with a new copy.

Go here: http://www.spywarein...es.html#control and download the version of control.exe for your operating system. If you are running Windows 2000, copy it to c:\winnt\system32\. For Windows XP, copy it to c:\windows\system32\.

Download the Hoster from here: http://members.aol.c...dbee/hoster.zip
Press 'Restore Original Hosts' and press 'OK'
Exit Program.

If you have Spybot S&D installed you may also need to replace one file.
Go here: http://www.spywarein...s.html#sdhelper
and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing you Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy)

Additionally, Please check your ActiveX security settings. They may have been changed by this CWS variant to allow ALL ActiveX!! If they have been changed, reset your active x security settings in IE as recommended.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Good luck :D
