      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

altered browser pages & faves, new desk top icon

2 posts in this topic

Hi All,

Came across this site as a result of recommendation from a friend who has had browser hijacking problems. I have read the FAQ, and downloaded "Hijack this" as advised and have not deleted or altered anything since scanning my system.

I have also scanned my system with SpyBot and Ad-aware before using "Hijack this."

Although both Spybot and Ad-aware have picked up problems and promptly "removed" them, there seems to be something still hanging around, as we are persistently being troubled by the following:

a) Favourites being added to our favourites list. These are - Easy Search, Gift Cert, Pop up block, Spyware removal, Viagra, Web hosting, best search and Casino. (Spybot detects these changes but they keep coming back)

b) Whilst browsing pages online I am often redirected to another page that lists similar titles as listed above.

c) An orange and navy icon reading "Best Casino Online" keeps appearing on the desktop.

d) A window will pop up ocassionally (even when not online) that appears in the guise of a "Windows" window claiming our computer is infected with Spyware.

Please find a copy of my "hijack this" log below.

1. Open Task Manager and kill the following processes: (not all of them may be running)

a. msmk.dll

taskngr.exe or taskmgn.exe (not taskmgr.exe which is normal)

2. Next go to Start -> Run and open a command prompt.

a. At the command prompt type in: regsvr32 msmk.dll /u

3. Now you’ll need to browse to C:\windows\system32 and delete the following files

a. mess.exe

taskngr.exe or taskmgn.exe (not taskmgr.exe which is normal)

b. You won’t be able to delete the msmk.dll file yet.

4. Now browse to C:\Windows\Prefetch and delete any files that start with the same names as above.

a. Ex: telnetxp.exe-00000000.pf

5. Now you’ll need to reboot

6. After the reboot browse to C:\windows\system32 and delete the msmk.dll file.

7.Now open internet explorer and then Tools -> Internet options

a. Go to the “Programs” tab and click the “Reset web settings…” button.

b. This will clear out all the setting the msmk.dll file overwrote.
