      IE 11 copy/paste problem

It has come to our attention that people using Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) are having trouble with copy/paste to the forum. If you encounter this problem, using a different browser like Firefox or Chrome seems to get around the problem. We do not know what the problem is, but it seems to be specific to IE 11 and we are hopeful that Microsoft will eventually fix it.

Ok lets try this again. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone help me? I've had my IE hijacked and routed to "C:\WINDOWS\system.html" a week ago. My computer becomes covered with unclosable porn ads whenever IE is opened. To make matters worse since I first posted my girlfriend opened IE again and now there is a trojan virus infecting "C:\WINDOWS\system32\system32.dll" that can be identified by my virus program but cannot be fixed, quarentined, or deleted. I updated my antivirus software moments before running it. Please, I know this forum has been crowded lately but I really need help. Here is a current hijackthis log.

Hi there,

Please do this first,

You are running hijackthis from your desktop, this is not a good idea because when we do a fix hijackthis will create backups and they will be spread all over your desktop. Can you please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar). Then extract hijackthis into the folder you have created and run it from there. When you have done that, delete the copy of hijackthis that you have on your desktop.

Next,

You are using Kazaa. This is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ If you opt to remove it, first use Add/Remove Program to remove it and any reference to Altnet and P2P Networking. Go to your control panel, then to add/remove programs...uninstall P2P networking...If/when asked whether you also want to remove Altnet components, say 'Yes'.

P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns.

When you have done that, then make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for hijackthis and put a check against the following and click 'fix checked';

NOTE THE OPTIONAL FIX

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Explorer] C:\WINDOWS\system32\explorer.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updmgr] C:\Program Files\Common files\updmgr\updmgr.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AltnetPointsManager] C:\Program Files\Altnet\Points Manager\Points Manager.exe -s

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CMESys] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\CMEII\CMESys.exe"

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe 1

O4 - Global Startup: GStartup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT\GMT.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE<<<<These items are considered to be resource hogs that are not needed and it may be worthwhile to fix them with HJT. You will still be able to start them manually if you need them...

O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

O21 - SSODL: System - {2DC2D0C3-C9B1-438F-97D3-F3F212C1E9FA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\system32.dll

Restart your computer in

Safe Mode Also make sure you show hidden files Then delete the following files or folders as indicated below if they still show:

Not all or any of these may still show,

C:\WINDOWS\system32\system32.dll<<<<File

C:\WINDOWS\system32\explorer.exe<<<<File

C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe<<<<Folder

C:\Program Files\Common files\updmgr\updmgr.exe<<<<Folder

C:\Program Files\Altnet\Points Manager\Points Manager.exe<<<<Folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\CMEII\CMESys.exe<<<<Folder

C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe<<<<Folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT\GMT.exe<<<<Folder

C:\PROGRA~1\Altnet\DOWNLO~1\asm.exe<<<<Folder

C:\Program Files\Common Files\CMEII\CMESys.exe<<<<Folder

Reboot, then post a fresh logfile so that I can check to see if it is clean.

Hey 12g

I uninstalled Kazaa and all it's components. When I ran HijackThis several of the items you told me to check were not there. These were:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updmgr] C:\Program Files\Common files\updmgr\updmgr.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AltnetPointsManager] C:\Program Files\Altnet\Points Manager\Points Manager.exe -s

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CMESys] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\CMEII\CMESys.exe"

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

I checked what did show up and when I clicked on "fix checked" I recieved an error message that said this:

An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modBackup_MakeBackup(sltem=021 - SSODL : System - {2DC2DOC3-C9B1-438F-97D3-F3F212C1E9FA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\system32.dll)

Error#62 - input past end of file

Please email me at merijin@spywareinfo.com reporting the following

*What you were doing when the error occurred

*How you can reproduce the error

*A complete HijackThis scan log, if possible

Windows version:Windows NT S.01.2600

MSIE version 6.0.2800.1106

HijackThis version 1.98.0

I then rebooted in Safe Mode, the only files on the list that were:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\system32.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\explorer.exe

Here is a new HighjackThis log

Hi there,

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove any instance of

AWS or WeatherBug

Next,

Make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for hijackthis and put a check against the following and click 'fix checked';

Hi there,

Apart from this optional fix, your log is now clean.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [spyKiller] C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe /startup<<<<You are running SpyHunter (or Spykiller). This is a program that advertises itself as removing spyware, but it apparently gives false positives to get you to buy it and then does a miserable job. Some even think that it may install malware. I recommend that you remove it in Add/Remove Programs. See this post for details about these programs:

http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?...tail=2004-02-05

Restart your computer in

Safe Mode Also make sure you show hidden files Then delete the following files or folders as indicated below if they still show:

C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe<<<<Folder

Next,

To provide future protection - I would advise you to download and install:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. Download from Here

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all. Download

Here

Both are very small free programs that you run once, and then just weekly to check for updates.

And also see

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Thank you very much 12g.

I tried to get rid of the optional fix but I do not have SpyHunter or SpyKiller on my computer. I only have Spybot and Adaware. Is Spybot the one I need to get rid of?

Other than that I intend to download the programs you reccomended. IE is working fine now. Once again thank you very much.

Hi there,

NO!! do not touch Spybot.

This is the line showing in your HijackThis log,

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [spyKiller] C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe /startup

That is the line for you to fix check.

Then delete this folder,

C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe<<<<Folder

Please do that then post a fresh HijackThis log

Hey 12g

Ok I did what you said. I fixed it through HijackThis. The odd thing is that there was no file in my Program Files titled SpyKiller (or Spy-anything other than spybot). How could it have gotten there? I dont recall ever downloading it either. Anyway, here is a new HijackThis log.
